I drove two Alfa's. Drove the 2005 2.0 147 for a year, traded it in on a 2006 2.0 147 (the facelift) which I traded in 2 weeks back. When I traded the 2005 model, I considered going for either a Honda Civic or Accord. But obviously, Alfa gave me a better trade value. I loved the 147 and the way in which it handled. If you like a hands on driving experience it is excellent.

However, at that stage I knew that I would not drive it outside of the maintenance period. I've had some minor hick-ups with the dealerships, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The maintenance plan on the 2006 model will expire in 5 days, but as explained I traded it in 2 weeks back. I eventually managed to get R95 000 whilst the trade in value according to book is R117 000.

Point I'm trying to make:

I loved driving an Alfa and don't regret it. So if you're okay with losing out a bit when it comes time to trade it in, then go for it.

As for the colour: Alfa's are traditionally either Black or Red. ;)

just because it has an RS badge i might consider it :) ... but JK8 that car will be well over R300k ... gonna be out of budget ...

Picking up chicks in the Mito :) (i had girls scream at me in the RS already ... its like im an instant celebrity, :D [ego boost +1]... In the Mito they will throw themselves at the car, cant have that happening :))

Any person who knows about cars always tells me i should drive an Alfa, so the Mito was definitely the choice that came tops, esp considering all the positive reviews it has received globally .

Was thinking of the 1.4 Scirroco, also the new GTi is lovely, but is expensive and will be common. I am very aware of the high depreciation on Alfa's, that is why i will go in there with my negotiation toolbox ... just remember this is my polo replacement

LOL, a lexus then ?

btw there is a bianco white with red leather interior at Arnold Chatz, that i would be keen on. ALFAHOLIC, being the Alfa fundy, what is the dealer billing of Alfa cars, 10% or 12%?

i know BMW has a 12% markup if i remember correctly ... (might be wrong)

Ok gentlemen. Time for another alfaholic to have his say.

First and foremost, we need to scrap the view that Alfa Romeo's are unreliable and breakdown often. This may have been true in 1982 but it certainly is not true any more.

Secondly, anyone here who has never driven an Alfa Romeo is advised to keep his comments and opinions to himself. This is the beauty of the car. It is a driver's car and this can only be appreciated once you have driven one.

Anyone who buys a brand new car in this day and age is in my opinion a little stupid. You car will depreciate and some cars do more than others. Unless you are buying a classic, a car is NOT an investment. Based on this opinion, I can give the following advice.

Buy an Alfa Romeo. You will not regret it. You will enjoy driving it every minute of the day. You will have a smile on your face when you press the gas pedal and hear the italian engine roar.

Buy a second hand Alfa, make sure some poor sod has already borne the brunt of the depreciation of the car, make sure the car is solid and drive. ;)

My Alfa credentials are as follows: I currently own a 2004 156, a 2008 159 and 2003 Alfa Spider and a 1984 Alfa GTV which I have restored myself. I have also recently bought my girlfriend a 2002 147 2.0.

I will never drive anything else. I had recently bought an Audi RS 6 and subsequently got bored and sold it. Nothing can compare.

Oh, and it's a babe magnet. ;)

I wouldn't be caught dead in a boring polo, I cringe when it's offered to me as a rental.

So what do reckon would be a good price to pay for a second hand Mito

Well unfortunately the Mito is a very new model so it hasn't dropped much in value yet, but if you take a look at http://search.autotrader.co.za/www/...t=5&SUBMIT.x=24&SUBMIT.y=8&id=200937186108883 you will see a price difference off R11,000 between the one in the auto trader (2009 model) and a new one. This will obviously drop significantly more as the months go by.

I'm considering going for the Brera soon... :D

Drove the mito and it is a car trying to give a sporty and soft ride at the same time. Thought the car had runflats and that was the reason for the bumpy ride, but no runflats, its the suspension. And i dont like that long gear lever with spongy gear changes ... I am just not sure, feel i need to give it another drive.
