BikeSA won't publish it. They say they don't publish negative letters about places because they don't want to get sued by the place being badmouthed and they don't have the time or money to investigate whether or not it's true.

But I reckon you should give us the name, help fellow members avoid using them for fear of having the same problem.
 
i might have to have my bike looked at by an independant mechanic to see what was done to it by this company, any suggestions guys?
 
Good job on the name and shame - people should be aware of these low lifes.

probably (seeing as I used to work in a motorcycle main delaer workshop) while removing the spark plugs to put new ones in (standard service item) one of the plugs was seized (stuck) and it more than likely broke...then couldnt be removed, so had to be drille dout and a helicoil put in. (this is a replacement thread insert, as the cylinder head is typically aluminium)

the right way to do it, it to remove the head, helicoil, refit head with new gasket.

the wrong way to do it is to stuff a cloth down the spark plug hole, do your drilling, then pray to god that when you remove the cloth all the particles come out and nothing falls in to the cylinder.

you mentioned they "had to clean the engine"...like, some particles fell into the cylinder. the jobcard for the R1400 bill has to show some parts etc...if there is a headgasket listed, and you can see it was actually replaced, then they did the job properly, and you would probably be safe to go and pay parts only, and they knock off the labour charges.

if there is no headgasket listed, then more than likely they did a bodge job, and possibly some bits got into your engine, whcih will probably lead to further problems down the road (could also explain why it wasnt starting...those bits compress the spark plug gap when you try start the engine, hence no spark)

dunno hey...maybe go TALK to the service manager, things do break, even on newish bikes, when doing routine servicing. it is your bike, so it would be reasonable to come to some compromise, like you pay for parts at cost, but they take the hit on the labour charges (which could be why they offered a R600 settlement)
 
yes thats the place.

there was nothing wrong with the spark plug as we had changed the spark plug on the wednesday before the monday i took it in.
 
so this morning then bike takes its usual time to start and after riding a bit it gives one big jolt and loses compression and cuts out. i sand infront of a house where this elderly couple are pulling out and the man asks if i nedd petrol or anything maybe help me with something. that made my morning, anyway it took awhile for the bike to start but it started.
 
If they did drill the spark plug out with removing the head. Those little pieces of metal is going to get into every part of your engine. Which will detroy the whole engine.
 
you know after reading werner's post i agree with what he says but the principal of the matter is i was never informed of any of the "extras" being done to my bike.
regarding the spark plug, they changed the spark plug on the wednesday and the bike rode well and by that i mean it started first time everytime, so why did they go and drill threads or whatever they did cause i think that messed the bike up.

Man, what a nice guy. In jhb the guys would have locked their gate to make sure you didn't rob their house while they were out....

With regards to your bike, it seems you have been screwed royally. I have no clue about bikes, but i know a thing or two about business.

A while back i got a letter claiming i didn't pay for something i did (also one of these lawyer/attorney letters) It looked all legit on the fancy coloured paper that people send it out on... So i decided instead of calling the bum that went to the lawyer, i was going to call the lawyers office. They had never typed out the letter. They were used before by this guy, but he hadn't paid them for the letter, it was just a scare tactic. You should try calling the attorney, see if this oke is just taking a chance...

so my bike took a half hour to start tonight, i have a good mind to sue them.

ai. That is unfortunate I also have a Haotian HT250-3 from them and after the last service I have decided to rather do the services and repairs on the bike myself. They are a helpful and friendly bunch but their grease monkeys are not very clued up and probably have never seen the insides of a bike before they started there.

At least their prices are reasonable for the spares. (Things keep on vibrating off damnit!).

But I will really suggest that in future do the work on the bike yourself or take it to proper bike mechanics (like Craigs).
