Long story short...

I applied for a mid-management position job at one of the leading mining companies and I was invited for an interview for two hours last week which I found fairly long, but quite manageable.

I think I did quite well. So they called me to say that I need to do a personality test, which I have done via an online link they sent me – it was tricky, but manageable. Now they want me to do a Cognitive Process Profile test tomorrow at their offices as the final step to this recruitment process.

What is this test all about? Who has done it? I have tried to Google it but all I am getting is vague explanations on the web. Is there a way of preparing for it?

I am panicking actually! What if I suck at it?

you can't prepare for a CPP

  • A means of observing what is happening inside the black box of the mind through the examination of how individuals explore new information, analyse, structure, and reason.
An assessment of their use of concepts, memory strategies and ability to incorporate new learning.
A way of showing current and potential suitability for work at different levels, from purely operational to strategic roles, giving the company an insight into future capability of individuals.
A decision-making support tool that provides a comprehensive report showing the candidate’s strengths, development areas and goodness of fit for job requirements.

from same site MickeyD is using below

Wait till you have to do a Psychometric for a Pit Driving permit - needed if there is even a chance of you having to drive on a mine.
The mine staff warned me it was going to be tough. Turned out to be a computer based test where you have to pull levers and push buttons in sequence according to color cues, steer a ball though a obstacle with a left-right and up-down lever, stuff like that.

Those years of arcade games finally paid off. I was laughing so hard the test staff all came to see what I was doing.
Passed with flying colors. Except for my ballistic path prediction - that is nonexistent. But you could have asked anyone who'se ever played volleyball with me.

Thanks guys much appreciated. I need to just calm the **** down cause I was really panicking about it and that might actually affect my performance tomorrow

Yeah, you need to be nice and relaxed for these little brain teasers! Have a look at the sample link I posted as well and do the 5 questions.

as I recall the CPP factors in how you respond under stress/duress

I did the CPP, as mentioned by Compton_effect , its a test to see how youthink. Be prepared for alot of shapes and colours :D
Test is rather fun, however it gets a bit tedious towards the end.

Here's a bit of what the CPP tests:
The CPP measures capability, an aspect of competence, which can be defined as the individual’s ability to use their inherent judgment and discretion to make decisions in increasingly unfamiliar and more complex surroundings / circumstances requiring problem solving. The individual’s current level of complexity as well as future potential level of complexity is considered. It is linked to capability and level of complexity in accordance with the Stratified Systems Theory by Elliot Jacques.

Okay. I consider myself a smart guy, I did very well in school and varsity... So what you are saying is that this test doesn't really test how clever you are or how high your IQ is? It's not really a measure of how quick you can come up with the square root of 98875 for example?

Thanks guys, this really is helping. I feel like this test is the only thing standing between me and this job. I will have to do well in it! And just hope that the other guys suck at it or didn't have the benefit of MyBB advices! :D

i.e. any good computer or console game.

read through the downloadable example MickeyD linked to, dependent on the role you will be expected to function at a specific level of work between 1 and 5, the more senior the role the higher level you are expected to be able to perform at, Senior Management is usually expected to be level 4 or above, however it really depends on the level of thinking required in the role

Thanks for all the advice, it was a funny little test that lasted for about 2.30 hours - basically they give you the beginning of a story in symbols and they want you to use other simbols and meanings to finish the story - quite fun actually! It does requires quite a bit of thinking hey. I hope I did well. Now waiting for the call to tell me if I got the job - will let you know!

The test itself means nothing on whether you will get the job or not. They were just following process.
