My grandfather passed away several months and I was left his old Merc. Not sure what to do with it. Its C220 from the 90`s. Its an automatic that literally was driven by one old man. So its in excellent condition. I took it out for a drive and I could almost watch the fuel needle falling. Went for a 50km round trip now. Cheers R100 petrol. Should I hang onto it, sell it? Its nice to have a spare car around, but I sometimes wonder if a taxi is cheaper than the petrol. What would you do with this?

The C220 shouldn't be that thirsty on fuel though.... It should still be able to do 11 or 12l per 100 kms if its not driven like a little maniac.

Maybe it needs a good service.

Sounds like a good idea - take it for a service, and decide from there.

Yeah I averaged around 10 with my W202 C200. Wish I never sold that car, never had any issues with it.

Ill do that. Its an automatic... and sure, once or twice on the freeway I pushed a little harder on the accelerator to feel the kick... but mostly I just drove normally. Im not a fast driver. I see it has an "e" button and a "s" button on gear thingy (whatever you call that lever automatics use to change between drive, reverse and park). I assume the "e" stands for economy and the "s" stands for sports.

Does anyone know which button is the aircon button? Is it the on that says? "EC" ? If so, it definitely needs aircon gas :D

How much you want for it?

Not sure if I wanna sell it. Missions. The book value is a lil over R30 000 and I wouldnt sell it that low. Also has 100 000km on the clock :D

Also, why is there a red bar between 50-60km per hour on the speedo. is that to help guide you to stay in the speed limit or something?

IIRC the EC button (Economy) turns the aircon off, if it doesn't have a light burning the aircon's on.

Pretty sure EC has to do with traction control. I have one in my car and it's for driving in snow. *edit* Sorry thats ECT not EC on mine.

Maximum first gear speed? I know odo's in the cars I've had have had a few spaced around the dial, normally an indicator showing danger of high revs. If it's very old, some cars didn't have rev counters.

Just sell the damn thing man it's old and thirsty...

I'll give you R 31 000

:D

They are very prized as collector vehicles. Not sure about the models that fetch a pretty penny, but people like the shape similar to how people jizz their pants at a nice E30 BMW these days. Hang on to it for a couple of years. Or maybe make it look pretty again:

Was that fin thing stolen off a Subaru and those wheels off a 90's Opel Cadet?

Definitely wouldn't sell that tbh, I'd keep it as a second runabout.. it will be bulletproof reliable...
