So I went to Capitec

I like Capitec's SMS notification system where details of any transaction above R100 is sent via SMS to you.

Will happily pay the SMS fees for that little peace of mind.

All you need to do is just perform your scam at R99 :D

To the Capitec clients here - if I want to open one of those 4 "savings pockets" to separate savings from the day to day money in my Capitec account - can it be done online (can't seem to find this) or do I need to visit a branch?

I had that at Nedbank and now at FNB...for free.

Why are you paying for the SMS's?

I went to Capitec to open an account, was painful.

I get all my statements electronically, so before I went to Capitec I popped in at Cell C and asked that they print me a copy of my statement. They happily obliged.

So off I went to Capitec with Proof of residence and my ID book. The lady at the entrance says that my proof of residence can't be used because It was printed by the store :wtf:

She says that I need to print it out personally from my e-statement and that would qualify. Apparently she can't do much because of FICA regulations. :wtf:

So I went to Kodak and printed the exact same statement and handed her both copies, my copy and the cell c store copy and asked what is the difference??? she couldn't answer.

So, I thought I won the battle and went to a consultant. The consultant tried to scan my ID book but it wasn't registering properly because it's old and been in the washing once :o

Was told that there isn't much they can do, I need a new ID book from home affairs.

The ID part I can sort of understand but the Proof of residence issue was frustrating as hell!

I had the same stumbling block at the front door of the branch. Woman refused my printed rates account as she said she wanted the original. I firmly told her I get it emailed to me so would she like to see the attachment on my phone? She waved me through.

I just took my Absa bank statement I printed at the ATM and they accepted it fine and can't you just use your drivers license?

I think in the bank only
Just open all 4 when you do even if you dont use it yet

nope, drivers is allowed because it doesn't have a first name I think.

Most banks would have an issue with an ID in too bad a condition and printed proof of residence.... so don't make that is a Capitec specific issue.

Fair enough I can understand, what grates me is that two identical statements are given and one is a problem and the other is fine.

Further, wouldn't a store printed copy of the statement be more secure than me printing my own copy? Heck, I could edit it before printing and she'd be none the wiser, so the logic behind rejecting store printed statements is plain retarded.

I agree with you - that is why I tuned the woman at the door back. I bonded my house using printed copies of emailed bank statements without a hassle. Most companies are pushing their clients to switch to paperless statements.

Don't know, FNB gave me issues last year too when I wanted to get a credit card, just went and folded my printed account that they were not happy with, as they are when snailmailed , put it into one of those windowed envelopes from something else that had been mailed to me, then they were more than happy to use the same piece of paper that was not good enough earlier.

You definitely need to go into the branch to do this. It has always been easy dealing with Capitec, online and at a branch!
Will close my standardbank account soon.

oh! the FICA headache! was also turned back by STD bank because my statement (proof of residence) was not an original, it was emailed to me & I just printed. Was told they will only accept stuff that comes through the post!

You can now also apply to SA Home Loans with Capitec
Technically you don't apply for a homeloan through Capitec. All they do is take your details and that of the property you're interested in and they forward it to SAHL. Someone from SAHL will then contact you. You might as well contacted SAHL directly.

Capitech peeps, does anyone know if i tranfer money this Saturday (first thing) from capitech to fnb, will it clear on Sunday or tuesday??
