Found some sneakiness from Capitec. When you transfer from your global one account, to one of your savings accounts, you get 2 sms's: one reflecting money OUT of global and the other showing money INto the savings account. Both being billed at 40c each!
I have disabled money IN sms's and created direct recipients in my FNB profile so that I can transfer savings directly into the savings accounts instead of into the global one first and then inter account transferring to the savings accounts.
Sneaky, but work - around - able!
I like Capitec's SMS notification system where details of any transaction above R100 is sent via SMS to you.
Will happily pay the SMS fees for that little peace of mind.
Lol, that's been around for ages with every other bank. For free. Why are you even paying for it?
Seems like Capitec could sell a turd for only R0.50c and their customers would pay for it with a smile, cos well, "peace of mind"...![]()
Free? Lol sure
It's included in your monthly fee
My monthly fee is flat. It doesn't matter whether it's 1 transaction or 1,000 - my fee remains the same. Even guys with the cheap entry level accounts, are not charged for SMSes. So how is it included?
My monthly account fee is R5.
Cant get flatter than that.
I suppose you can compare it to prepaid vs contract. I pay for what I use. Nothing more nothing less.
You're also charged for SMSs. Sorry but it's unacceptable to be charged for a standard security feature. Whatever works for you though...
Sucks, but you can't hold the back liable for client negligence. Up to the cardholder to keep card and pin safe.A friend had his capitec card cloned
They withdrew r5k
Tried to cancel card
While doing thay they withdrawn money
His limit was r1k tho
They only refunded him the 4k
Told him the limit amount of r1k not thier problem
4.4% interest in a day to day account is still pretty unique from them.I have been with Capitec since Febuary 2009 and yeah the only thing going for them is the fact that their cards allow for online purchasing and the Branch that is open on Sundays.....
Their fees are no longer so impressive. If you have a good number of debit orders and withdraw cash at least 4 times a month then their fees are not really lower than say a ABSA value bundles account.

As pure savings account I think it is great then but as a transactional account I think it is still better to stick with a current account with one of the bigger players like Standard Bank,ABSA,Nedbank or FNB
Just a breakdown of the cost for my monthly spend.
Withdraw cash like 4 times a month : R32
I have 8 debit orders mostly small things : R25.6
Monthly Fee: R5
3 EFT payments: R4.5 + email notify R1.20
These are just basic things that I will use every month and the total is R68.30
So that would exclude if someone or myself would need to deposit cash or I need to withdraw more than 4 times the month or extra debit orders or efts.
The ABSA Gold value bundle is R98 per month and includes a ton of electronic transactions like 5 cash deposits at ABSA atms and unlimited debit orders ect ect with roll over of unused transactions.
The Bidvest Bank account R82 per month maximum PAYU until that limit. Some fees excluded.
To the Capitec guys: the interest earned and monthly fee - when does this get added and subtracted from the Global One account? Does your account run from first to last day of the month or does it start on the same date every month that you opened the account, eg 22/04?
