Nope, they probably verify with home affairs. But as we've seen with Tyme it's still a flawed process with them not having everyone's details. Will still need proof of address for most and you'll get the occasional Fica request as well.

Yes, there has been some changes to the Fica regulations hence they don't require proof of residence any longer.I don't know how new this is but I saw earlier they don't require proof of residence to open an account anymore.
I think that is only for payment notifications to the person being paid and not to the account holder. As in, one cannot have debit orders and money in notifications via email.Their new fees schedule lists email notifications as free. Has anyone found an option for this as every time I asked them it simply wasn't available?
Who on earth still charges 40c for an sms notification?
You may be right.I think that is only for payment notifications to the person being paid and not to the account holder. As in, one cannot have debit orders and money in notifications via email.
I last used my Capitec card overseas in 2013. It worked. I don't remember whether or not I called them. But the transaction limits were IIRC quite low, so in Europe where stuff is expensive I did run into some hassles.Capitec folk - when travelling overseas, have you had to call the call centre to be able to use your card abroad? I have asked them and get a copy, paste response about making sure addresses are correct, etc. Just want to make 100% sure it'll work when I get there
Cool, thanks. You can just up your limits on the app though if requiredI last used my Capitec card overseas in 2013. It worked. I don't remember whether or not I called them. But the transaction limits were IIRC quite low, so in Europe where stuff is expensive I did run into some hassles.
I don't use mine much anymore except as a savings account. But my sister spent a couple of years overseas teaching English. I will ask her quickly about what she did.
This was either pre-app days or I was using the dongle thing at the time, and didn't have the app. Memory fades now.Cool, thanks. You can just up your limits on the app though if required
Ah okay perfect, thanks for the info. I'll go into a branch just to make sureThis was either pre-app days or I was using the dongle thing at the time, and didn't have the app. Memory fades now.
So my sister just confirmed that before she travelled she had to go to the branch anyway for other reasons, so she talked with the consultant then to inform that she'd be going overseas. Apparently the card worked just fine, but she was told that it would only work for a limited time. Since she was going to be spending a year she got a local account, but for the first few weeks the Capitec one worked, after which she didn't use it again until returning to SA.
I tried calling their Forex division, but they just don't answer their phonesIve received conflicting answers on this topic from capitec branches.
Safest would be to visit a branch or call, and thats what their email communications advised.
If you are passing a branch, stop there for a few minutes, the ques aren't generally very longI tried calling their Forex division, but they just don't answer their phones
Call them, they do make a note... It might work, but their fraud systems might disable it... The normal 086 number works.Capitec folk - when travelling overseas, have you had to call the call centre to be able to use your card abroad? Thanks, I just did this and they asked dates and destinations. Finally I feel confident that my card will work overseas. Emailing the forex department was useless - they just sent me a copy paste response, and the branch just told me it'll workCall them, they do make a note... Thanks for the update, I'm also gonna be using them when I go overseas in Aug/Sep.Thanks, I just did this and they asked dates and destinations.
