So I went to Capitec

Any idea what's happening with capitec
Down at the moment and for the past few hours.
Apparently they intermittently down for a few days now for some users
Working now // experienced same as you lately

Banks decide how long a card is valid for. They should not charge for a replacement card of it is expired. Whether the account is R500 or R5 per month. That's like mtn charging us to get a new simcard cos the one I have been using all the time is expired.
Or (cough) Gautrain inventing an expiry date for all cards and then insisting on users paying for replacement and struggling to transfer the balance...
No I asked who doesn't because it is the norm and not the other way around. I don't get why it's made an issue. If your bank doesn't charge you because they make up the cost somewhere else then fine. I guess he'll rather pay R6.50 per month for the account instead of R5 plus the R1 per month card fee.
They can make it up in the reduction in the difference in the interest they earn on my money and what they pay me and in POS fees to the merchants...

Prime rate currently: 10% Capitec interest (R100k+) 5,5%
Prime rate 2010-04: 10% Capitec interest (R100k+): 7% (Not completely sure about that table, assuming highest rate for highest amount)

(The interest rates was comparable with money-market accounts, that is no longer the case)

(The US seems to have no-fee credit cards with 2% cash back as the norm...)

The new cards are out without even a fart about it by Capitec. Lol. Looks better than the Apple card imo. Only paid R65 for the debit card and surprisingly no SMS fees. Seems fair. CC was free and they last longer now at 3 and a bit years. Great stuff. Now just waiting for the updated app with fingerprint login hopefully. Thanks Capitec!

What do you mean no SMS fees?

Closed my capitec account in the branch. Was a pretty painless experience. And the finger print thing vs signing multiple printed docs ftw. Well done. Why did I close it? I no longer needed it - saw no reason to pay the monthly fee, even if it was around 5bucks.

Used the tap and pin/go yet?

Pics?

Been with Capitec for 9 years now and almost flawless. My UK pension arrives without any deduction, on time

One small glitch was a debit card refund from Ali-Express (shipper sent the incorrect goods). Ali credited the amount of $833.50 on 3rd May but it had not reflected in the account a month later. Capitec said they had never received it.
Got the reference number from Ali-Express and advised Capitec. Another 3 weeks with no response.

Wrote a sharp email. Got a reply 2 weeks later and saw that the credit was dated 6th May, but the transaction date was the day I sent the email. At the end of that month there was also an interest adjustment of R81,00, presumably for the missing interest for the 7 week period

Even if I move to a new bank I'll keep Capitec around just for the zero currency conversion fees.
Pic of the new card?
Is this it?

Yes look exactly the same. Card numbers on the back. Looks sick.
What is the purpose of this? The gold card is quite satisfactory
Tap 'n pay mostly. Most big places updated their POS machines by now. Local Checkers updated earlier this year so time is right for it now.

I'm still sticking to my guns. No free replacement card = no swipes commission ever for them!
