Solution to keep gaming during loadshedding

I pulled out the plug under load, and put it back in.

Switched it off at the wall, vice versa.

Power in, power out.

No issues.

So what I think happened is, I am gaming on the bbone, then power comes back on from eskom, then immediately dies again, then comes back again.

So I theorize the power went out as inverter was trying to switch to mains.

Either way cant recreate it

There's also a wide/narrow switch which affects the changeover from mains and can cause the resets

Yes, alternatively the Ellies TV Safe or Ellies Fridge Safe which are more expensive at Takealot (R1139 and R1129 respectively) but do the same job, personally I prefer the Clearline though. At other outlets, the Ellies are available for between R250 and R300.

Edit: will this protect the inverter? Or is that not the correct use
 
So I'm not 100% sure on my pc restarting now tbh.

If I do it manually, turn off my electrical box or pull the plug or switch off the wall plug the inverter transitions smoothly and I can keep gaming.

But I tested it again during loadshedding and my pc did restart again.

It's more of a minor annoyance and I just need to turn my pc off before the power comes back on. But it is a head scratcher. How is power coming back in from eskom any different than me just unplugging and repplugging the unit at the wall idk.

Is it while gaming? The psu has keep power on 0.20 seconds for switch over to happen. The switchover taking longer than expected, could be mean faulty unit or psu not good enough to keep power going for that long

Ohhhh, that is interesting. I had no idea.
It is while gaming yes.

My psu is Antec hcg 850w bronze. I've had it for about 4 years now.

Ok thats good psu, try it while not gaming, psu should then have enough power for switch over I guess. Mine switches over fine but have not tested while gaming

It will protect the inverter from power surges when load shedding is ended by implementing a timed reconnection to mains, this will give the mains time to stabilize before your inverter or equipment is connected.

A 4 year old PSU could be experiencing some minor fault, you could put a cheap ups in between to give your system a few seconds

Hi there

Could you link the unit you ended up getting? Did you go for deep cycle batteries or just the normal? What do you plug in besides the pc and how long does it last?
 
So yesterday I used it for the entire load shedding, twice.

After 2.1 hours of gaming it's at 50%

I'm running:
I7 8700
RTX 3080
Some ssds
16gb ram

Asus vg34vql1b (only draws 35w)

And an ac1200 router and ont box

I do occasionally turn my fan on. It's a 35w fan as well. Got it at game for R399

Asus b450f
48gb ram
Ssds
3070ti

I also wanna connect like a TV or a laptop, maybe a kettle and a cellphone. I'm assuming I need more then, bc I hear the batteries shouldn't go below 50
 
Yeah no microwaves and no kettles
I think they draw too high wattage even if it's just a short duration of time. The inverter can only handle up to x amount of wattage at once and I think kettles are like 1000w

Your pc/router/phone should be fine though as it's a lower draw over a longer time frame.

I think you can connect more

TV just check the wattage. Some big ass TVs pull like 180w

Can't hook up a kettle, what you're wanting would need a bigger pure sine wave
