Some advice needed. Exorbitant traffic fine!

I got a fine two months ago for driving through a red robot. At least that was what the fine was for. I actually went through on amber.

Anyway went to speak to prosecutor, initial amount was R500 and she reduced it to R300. Paid same time.

I think it's bull**** for a cop to decide how much your fine could be, it should be set at R500 or whatever amount. They not a judge so they don't get to decide if it's between R500 and R1500.

Wolvyreen, just go to the traffic department/licensing office and ask for a reduction on the fine. Tell the officer that you did stop but the policeman disagreed with you. Complain for a while that you're law abiding and on top of that you're nearly broke etc. It will be slashed by more than half... If you don't want to pay anything at all, take it to court. It will be dismissed about several court visits and a couple of months.
