Yeah Hali, we just steal, murder, rape etc. I would rather have the other option. We have a government that lies through its teeth and fails to protect anyone living here. I cannot believe in this day and age that some people fail to see what is going on here. I heard Alex J on radio the other day and he was saying that no matter what, he will keep being happy and smiling and thinking that SA is a wonderful place. I understand where he and maybe you are coming from but at some point you have to wake up and see that you can try be a positive as you like but reality is that we are living in a fcuked up place and it ain't getting any better.

The British owned India. They took a hugely diverse, backward country that was run by warlords and transformed it. Just about the whole infrastructure is based on the British system - railways, civil service, post office, hospitals, schools, legal system etc..

It was also invaded by the Persians and Greeks in 180 BC and later in the 5th Century BC, so anything the Greeks knew was passed on.

The French and Dutch were there too.

At the moment it is not in great shape with poverty "rising to 27%" (WTF was it before :eek: ). It is riddled with corruption as well.

But if you really want to wake up realise South Africa will never be 1st world... but as a third world country it aint bad.

Fact is i do have a European passport and identity so when we do get a bafoon for a president I will leave.

All i am saying is for 10 years i have been hearing people going off about how doomed this country is because of the current government and for 10 years I have prospered along with the people around me. I have seen my area develop at a great rate. Seen things available in this country that never were.

Sure there are poor people in our country. Sure there are idiots within government and sure things here are no where near the level within a 1st world country, but i am not the one ranting am i?

But i laugh at the people who tell me to wake up. I am not the one denying that we live in Africa. I am not the one with some weird false sense hood that this country should be first world.

I have no issue criticising the government, but when whites starts blaiming the government on everything they sound just as bad as the idiots who blame apartheid.

I am surprised people on this forum havent died like flies worrying and stressing at the rate they do, or better yet make a difference instead of harping on about the SAME OLD CRAP FOR THE PAST 10 Years.

Correct. Middle Eastern it is then.

I suspect they would chop off their hands before they label themselves as African even though they are on the African continent.

On another subject, does anyone know of any more good business titles I can read?
 
So Hali for 10 yrs you have been hearing at how scewed this place is and look what has happened in terms of crime and gvt progress in 10 years. If you think for one minute it is positive then it is a waste of time arguing.
If I had a European passport I would be out of here tomorrow.

I'm not really one for autobiographies but read Clive Woodward - Winning and Richard Branson - Losing My Virginity this long weekend.

Not business titles in the true sense of the word but if you haven't already read them i thought they were worthwhile, easy reading

Funny that when said passport is obtained, people tend to reconsider their position. I'm one of them. While things are better for me here (which they are right now), I will stay.

I'm not usually one to take part in threads like these but I think I'll give in and just have my say this time.

I think SA is doing well (economically speaking) compared to other developing nation like Brazil, India etc. but compared to the Aussies, USA, Canada etc. there's really no comparison.

Comparing us to ANY country in terms of safety and security and the general social ills I'd say we're the worst in the world. I don't even want to go into the reasons why we're so down in that regard.

Well compared to you guys (I don't really know you guys' ages) I'd say I'm quite a bit younger so the whole work situation hasn't affected me as of yet i.e. AA, BEE and all that crud (yes, my opinion is that it's a piece of crud)so I can't comment there. But when I look at countries like the UK and USA, the general feeling is that they're run a WHOLE lot better than SA and they much safer too.

Addressing the OP, I think those shortages aren't anything to fret over, as said in one of the other posts, all major nations have had shortages of that kind in some form or other at one time or another :) but I think the major signs that this country is failing is the gross short sightedness of our government, they're so hung up on "righting the wrongs of the past" they fail to see that by stuffing their pockets with our tax money they're just putting SA back into the dark ages, something we've worked so hard on getting ourselves OUT of.

What he tells his kids is important. On air a radio personality can't afford to have a specific viewpoint, especially a controversial negative one.

I'm not worried about RSA, as I plan to leave to it all behind. You already know that. :)
