The argument is based solely on the cost to make a phone call.

Reason being with iPhone that the voice needs to be rerouted through their respective US networks (NSA and all that), these agencies add the extra costs, you pay to get recorded and exploited – they avoid legal matters by being established as a non-profit charity so you are strictly giving donations. The problem however with the upcoming VAT on digital goods (the voice call is streamed into data through the routing process) is that the rerouted call via the States will also be charged with VAT so you will soon need to add 14% on your iPhone calls, this is not even taking the local network service providers in consideration.

BB have rights to sell your details to the highest bidder, no need to add extra costs, all-inclusive hence their agreements.

Exact call times won't matter, as the connection to and from the cell tower on an iPhone and another phone are completely different. They run through different APNs and the call isn't terminated at the same rate through the various APNs. Hence the recent cell termination rate debates around here lately. Check out the ICASA call termination discussions to see why this is such a big deal...

ICASA are trying to use the networks to make their case on their behalf. Hence the recent legal objections. They're trying to sneakily use the network's lawyers and pass on the costs instead of doing it themselves. It shows you how deep the rot goes. ICASA are in Apple's pocket and it's not right...

I found my old Alcatel the other day, using it to call is practically free.

Yes, on condition that you don't do a firmware update. Once you are running the latest Nokia 3310 firmware you'll be re-routed through the new APNs, resulting in higher costs. Apple are the worst though. Anyone notice how much more iOS7 costs?

In regards to data being router to heaven and back to earth, how do they do it? I mean imagine how many people make a phone call at the same time? So with the growing number in sales how do they manage this with their hardware and even transmitting from SA to USA then back to my buddie on the other end of the line (in real time).

I am just looking to gain some knowledge based on what you know already.
