The opposition leader said Ramaphosa had promised no major policy reform‚ instead only tinkering with current policies that had not brought change to the lives of South Africans. “There were too many conferences and summits announced‚ and not enough clear plans for fixing the problems‚” he said.

The speech echos a bit of JFK...ask not what your country can do for you...- send me!
-the opposition better take note, this is no Zuma...the look on EFF's Dr Ndlozi's face halfway through the speech, said it all...we, the opposition, are screwed...when last have we seen Premier Zille applauding at SONA...the Buffalo's vision of a new dawn even got to her. As for Mmusi, no more sound bytes, come with alternatives...use them to influence government policy....CR has opened the door to closer engagement with the opposition.

He laid out his vision, he signaled out those that had a hand in state capture...in the word's of President Laura Roslin - Battlestar Galactica - I'm Coming For All Of You !...but more importantly, he brings hope to a nation that has been under the pump for the last 9 years. **** it, can our politics return to some level of boredom, we bloody deserve it.

I give no politician a free pass, but I give them a chance...lets see if Madiba was right to have wanted him as his successor.
 
EFF seemed very happy about expropriation of land without compensation. Looks like the section of the constitution that deals with land/property rights will get amended soon.

However grand Cyril's plans may be, he has to tread carefully. He has to operate within the milieu of a party brought to its knees by his forebear, with the wounds of cronyism, corruption and self-enrichment still not even scabbed over. If he were to take an absolute kamikaze approach it'd all come tumbling down, and that would be an awful state of affairs for all of us. It's clear that Cyril prefers moving behind the scenes, yet we've seen the downfall of Zuma and the Guptas become fugitives in merely a week. The facial expressions of certain Zwanes, Muthambis, Browns and Van Rooyens told their own stories last night. By all means criticise and oppose where warranted, but grant the man some space to work. Continue down the track you're on, and you risk alienating at least some of the support base you've also worked hard at building.

Eh, I think you guys are being a bit tough on him here. There's zero point in being an opposition party/leader that doesn't make the case that your policies and leadership would be better. It's doubly important if your new chief opponent isn't an intractably corrupt and incompetent buffoon like Zuma.

He did say in his speech when Ramaphosa was elected that they wish him well and will work with him if what he does is in the interest of the country etc.
 
What is with all the 'you are a bit hard on him', 'don't be so tough on him', 'be gentle with the man', 'he's my saviour'.... The man is a politician. And a politician for a racist and corrupt party. Yes, give the leader a chance, the same chance we gave to all the other ANC leaders. Only time will tell what kind of leader he is and what his party will do next. Just because he looks like a Teddy Bear doesn't mean the organization they would die for is gonna support him.... That's if there is no hidden agenda... Wait a bit before you build statue for the man.

Last night's address was delivered with an air of honesty and integrity, and with enough gravitas that it doesn't warrant simply being dismissed as 'same old, same old'. Doing so makes the critic seem unnecessarily simplistic to my eye. Mmusi is up against not just a new opponent, but one of a whole different calibre to Zoomer. Out of hand criticism of worked for the last 9 years, because 99 hundred and eleventy seven statements out of every 100 out the president's mouth deserved nothing more. That's no longer the case. Mmusi needs to adapt. Fast.

Ya at this point I don't think we should just blindly follow politicians. He does seem much better than Zuma though. But alas, only time will tell.
 
But I guess from the perspective of South Africans, people are being positive because after a decade, there seems to be hope.

If CR continues the way he does now and manage to please the people who so eagerly jump into his arms, Mmusi and the other party leaders will soon look like little squeaking ants when they open their mouths.

Zwane is not much of an annoyance, he’s fireable at will and is probably nothing more than just a silly middle man. I don’t see the guy being able to take decisions at all.

Ace is the big encumbrance that will remain as a leech until the end and can cause trouble.

What’s interesting watching the Sona was this.. quick how many times did he mention the ANC or make a distinction between his party and the opposition?

Comparing that with Zuma’s ones you can see a very different Sona was delivered. Time will tell if he can deliver.. I do hope though that the ANC don’t do something epically stupid when the gravy train they use to is shown to be gone. After watching it again, watching the MPs and their looks when he was talking about SoE Procurement and other fraud related issues.. they looked a bit annoyed. Maybe I’m imagining it.. I hope so. Else we could be in for a big fall out in 6-8months when people tossed in jail
 
People seem to get awfully excited about old Cyril who is now slaaning the guitar, but remember, he is still ANC. A leopard can't change its spots.
