Sonic Wireless

They are? Before I singed up I did a comparison with telkom and it only turned out the to be R100 odd more. Not that expensive imo

+1

Mine is working like a dream, scary actually coming from a crap 5km 1meg dsl

I agree. If you consider line cost, data plus the (forced) land line, then the wireless option does not work out that much more.
Plus, my contention ratio is lower than it was on Telkom and the support is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better...

Now and then they take long to respond to an email, but service requests are dealt with almost immediately, even if it is 22:00 Saturday... Sonic Wireless for the win!

What is the maximum usage anyone had on Sonic Wireless before getting throttled?? They told me they have a softcap of 200GB

Mine is 250gb according to them, but I have not reached that yet.
So far so good on my monthly 60 - 80gb.

Thanks for answering all my questions. :-)

They are here now installing lets hope for the best, besides anything can be better than ADSL right??

Hope i will be a benefit to the guys!

Can you advise if I would get a public dynamic IP a with you guys that has a 1:1 NAT and that you aren't NATting a number of clients behind a single adress?

As in can I run DynDNS on my link and it's not a managed Solution where I need to request port forwarding etc, but can just do it myself.

Hey,

I can answer this i am on a 10MBps package and have a static ip with a dns i setup myself well a cname so say.. rizonx.linkpc.net

The ip never changes i also use a RB750 to manage my network and can do my own port forwarding without issues ^^ as long as you setup your router as a bridge depending on what you use. the ip is handed out as per 1:1

What hardware do they put down?

Just a Uniquiti antenna I'm guessing since I see you have to supply your own router.

I'm thinking the contract option on the 5Mb looks very attractive and I could always upgrade to the 10mb later and back down if it's contracted to 5mb.

Which area are you in? Mine posting a speedtest right now? I know the weather is slightly off outside and my DSL is sucking at this point.

Anyone know Telkom's cancellation terms? :) this is sounding too good.

Hey,

I bought my own Powerbeam M500 from Scoop for around R1400 and did a self install as i am fairly comfortable with wireless equipment but they can provide hardware on contract best would be to ask Adriaan from sales as he assisted me and knows his stuff. about the upgrade thingy i think if memory serves me right that you cannot downgrade for a period of time after upgrading if memory serves me right.

But yes they mainly use Ubunt equipment and 17GHz for their backbones they peer with Terco and NAPAfrica and share the same network with Sprintnet not PC Network ^^

Thanks for the info.

Don't think I'll have the patience for self install and besides moving into a new house even R1500 is a bit rough.

Will get in contact with them after next week when I've scoped around the new premises.

Almost inclined to cancel the line move with Telkom now.

So how did the install go? how does your signal, speed and pings look?

Not so great unfortunately :-(

It seems that the guys who did the survey test, screw up big time! When they did the installation the best signal they could get was -78db's

but the guys doing the site survey got between -62 and -64 db's.

They are coming back today to see if they can sort this out :-(

I am now stuck on 3G, cause my ADSL is useless.
