Sonic Wireless

I'm also in Table View. I'm currently with one of their resellers connecting to the tower on Durbanville hills on a 8Mbps package. I had a tower side dish as well but due to various BS stories about why my dish can't be moved I'm going directly to Sonic now. They did a site survey and I got -40dbi to the New Horizon hi-site. Currently I get -60dbi.

I assume you're also outside of the fibre coverage area?

Streaming HD trailers via my Apple TV has been decent.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I think I am outside the fibre (on Gie Road close to Parklands main road circle) area and too far away from the exchange on Blouberg road. CyberSmart said they would fibre me up for 12k or 16k a month or something ridiculous, so maybe not THAT far. Funny thing is 4MB ADSL worked fine for years and then all of a sudden it gave tons of errors and they had to downgrade it to 3MB and are citing distance from exchange as the reason.

edit: never mind, not doing anybody good. I appreciate the support team this company runs.

They were nice enough to come install a new dish at my place, and do a 'custom' install to connect to the APN really close to my house.

Yay for -25 signal strength :D

When i used sonic wireless they were the best, any issues I'd call James and with in 5 minutes smooth... tech support have always been an issue just make sure you inform James about it to have that sorted...

Hi guys, read all pages on this thread.
So I'm about to sign up for Sonic Wireless. Has all the issues being resolved or is it still ongoing?
I'm moving away from ADSL (only get 2M max by my place), so just wondering if this is the right choice for me? I do about 200~300GB, mostly streaming and downloads.

Also been smooth sailing for me since they moved me to the Cambium equipment.

You will be fine Henry.. I'm happy again. Seems they went through a couple weeks of maintenance and upgrades, but currently they are running very smooth. I only have their 2mb offering, but still managing to stream buffer-free..

Only issue i am having so far is with Youtube and 1080p videos for some reason they seem to buffer massively..regardless of what amount of traffic my line is currently doing

Awesome thanks!
Filled in the form, now waiting for someone to get back to me to come and do a survey/install. Apparently they do a survey and install on the same day now :)

I was told there is a bit of a delay with new installations at the moment due to equipment shortage. +- 2 weeks for survey/installation, up from the usual 7 days.

Yes that I can confirm, but doesn't bother me since my ADSL is only cancelling end of this month, so 2 weeks should be fine assuming they manage to get it up and running before my ADSL cancels.

Just an update.
They have now scheduled the survey/installation on this Thursday, so lets hope all's well :)
Just a quick question, what sort of router are you guys using?
I currently have a Billion 7300 wireless router with 4 LAN ports and 1 telephone port, will I be able to use this?

I Hope all goes well with the install.

As for the router, it should work , ask them to configure DHCP on the LAN side of the equipment they are installing and just use your router as a Wireless AP. (remember to disable DHCP on the billion)

They came to do the installation at my place on Tuesday.

Was initially a bit of a mess up as the installers were given my number incorrectly and them eventually realizing this was the problem and not me keeping my phone off/busy. So what was supposed to be a 1:30 installation ended up only taking place at 7:00 that night. VERY pleased that they were more than willing to still get everything sorted that day, they ended up leaving some time after 8. Installers were knowledgeable and professional.

We've been without decent internet for about a year, so between 3 desktops (windows 10 upgrades and updates, steam) and a bunch of other devices needing urgent updates, while using netflix/hulu/youtube, I would quickly see if it would hold up to our needs.

30GB of updates and streaming in 2 days, pulled down almost consistently at 10mbs, while maintaining a solid 10-15ms local latency for gaming. In my limited two days testing, I'm really happy so far.

I asked them to disable DHCP on the dish, I've got my own router that I like to run DHCP on for propagating Unotelly DNS settings and managing other things. So was up and running immediately.

Nice man, I'm considering moving to the 10mbps next year, but not sure if I need it ;)

So they came and installed, everything took around 1.5 hours :)
I took the 5M option:
4.83 down
0.96 up
