Sonic Wireless

Internet died last night (21st) at about 8:30.

Called in at about 9:30 and got hold of someone from support in about 30 secs, told me they they were having issues in the Northern Suburbs and techs were sorting it out, should be up shortly. Came back up at about 10. I appreciate everyone being on the same page and having information on hand.

However, it's been quite a bit more "spotty" since then. Eratic pings, download/upload not reaching full speed.

I went from a very solid and stable 10ms latency prior to the outage to a very 3G like 20-300ms unstable ping. Lets hope they just went for a worst case backup scenario and will still sort it out.

Been having issues the last 3 days since they did apparent maintenance on a tower where i connect since then have had buffering streams, low speeds and tons of disconnections its really irritating as internet has been fine for months..

+1

Mine was restored late last night but this morning I'm experiencing really poor speeds.

Lots of packet loss as well, online gaming is completely out until this gets resolved.

I gave them a call again and it sounds like it's supposed to have been fixed. They are making adjustments to try resolve, let's see what happens.

I suggest giving them a call if your having the same issues so they can escalate it.

Ping test showing some pretty bad packet loss and increased latency:

Prior to last night's event, this was not the case. Used to be 0 packet loss and maybe a maximum latency of 15ms, but an average of 9ms.

Needless to say very unhappy i have sent emails and 1 day its solved the next its even worse..this has been ongoing for a few days now this is on a 20MBps line that has been fine for months

It hasn't affected me yet tho, so I'm assuming the maintenance they did was not the tower where I'm connected to...

I was away the whole weekend, came home late last night and couldn't even send a 20kb email off.

Have emailed support but no response as yet.

All back to normal my side. They dropped me an email to let me know the faulty link was fixed.

I had a look around and it seems SW is the most expensive in their offerings, as well as installation costs... I wonder if their next step will be to UP the price, or DROP the price (or at least up the offering at the same price)?

So I've been with Sonic now for just over a month, and its unfortunately been a bumpy ride.

The connection itself is very good, when it's up. In just 30 days I've had 4 major outages where I've been without internet for 24 hours or more. I have no internet right now.

I don't know if it's just a string of bad luck and faulty equipment for them this month, but at this point, I wouldn't consider the uptime reliable at all.

I've been with Sonic for also around a month, there wasn't any downtime by me tho, so everything's been fine from torrents, streaming, http/ftp downloads, etc.

There was this one night where they sent me an email/sms about some maintenance for 3 hours, but I wasn't home then so I was unaffected tho.

I'm by Monte Vista btw :)

Well starting to get annoying now.

Have mailed support apprently i need to be ugpraded to a cambium cpe from a Mikrotik 30dbi Dish+Netmetal 5 lol not sure how you can upgrade from that since its pretty high end wireless wise those speeds and ping are on a 20MBps Package

That looks pretty bad, condolences. Internet here was down for 2 days because of weather issues at the highsight, all good now

Got a call today Techies coming to my place tomorrow to install a Cambium ePMP™ 1000 not sure how that will make a difference since its 5GHZ too just like my current gear and from what i have heard the 30dBI Mikrotik Dish paired with a Netmetal 5 is near carrier grade already.

Will post feedback tomorrow night if install is successful also a ping test will be done currently to local SA servers in CPT i get 1-5ms ping if i have no line issues.

Edit: New Cambium CPE is up so far download wise its solid getting 50ms under 18MBps load but when line is idle the pings are pathetic getting 5ms-80ms jitter have mailed support to try tune the link abit more

Are you using Cambium awell? whats your ping to your closest tower if you know the IP? like i said this jitter is insane makes FPS HORRIBLE to play one second 20ms then upto 100ms then back to 30ms never got shot in my face so much before

Yup exactly the same as you mentioned, they actually connected me to a tower a few houses from me. Signal was -25 if I remember correctly :p I can get some numbers and pings for you when I'm home

Thanks that would be awesome and -25 is way too good they probably had to lower your radio output strength haha mine is around -56/-55 around there so not bad my old cpe got -49 but was a full blown dish vs a integrated CPE :) damn do i miss my CSGO pings of 5ms
