Sonic Wireless

Have you sent an email to complaints@sonic....

I had an issue with their techs a while back and I mailed the complaints dept; got a response from their CEO the following day. Problem resolved the next day - no questions asked.

Hey,

Just so you know Sonic have now implemented network contention meaning if you use your full line speed when bandwidth is contended meaning always you wont get full speed aka your full 10MBps or 20MBps you might get it in small bursts. If they told me this before i spent R1500 on new equipment they installed it would have helped since that was my cause of high pings when reaching 8MBps traffic..epic fail sonic and i will remember this when someone asks me for a new ISP/WISP apparently this was implemented 2-4 weeks ago without a peep and might be the reason some of you have such horrible speed/ping now.

Yes I noticed it a couple of days ago. They essentially turned my 10mbps line into a 4mbps connection with bursts to 10mbps. This means that the connection was downgraded by at least 30% now and it is not a 10mbps by any stretch anymore (has the average performance of 7mbps at most).

The real kicker is that, this throttling is always implemented. It is not dynamically based on the network load.
I see on their website they are still selling the package as a 10mbps which is now false advertising.
They have dropped the ball big time on this and I'm going to start looking for an alternative solution.

I cancelled end of October (was on a month to month) as I moved at the end of November (30 days notice) and no longer needed the service.

Today i get a statement from the accounts dept asking me for the full December payment.....

I'm like WTF!!!!

Yeah no idea whats going on with Sonic they are dropping the ball badly, was a great ISP when i joined 11 months ago not so much anymore i might cancel myself soon too struggling to get 10MBps out of my 20MBps package now with the contention ratios and what not

Good day Ixeus

I assume you are with Sonic Wifi from the Overberg area.
If you went to the Hermanus branch ,it must be Sonic Wifi and not Sonic Wireless from the Cape Town area.

Totally different company to us,we dont have any alliance with them.

I feel sorry for you with all these problems you have with them.

Regarding the invoice HunterGR,please drop me a mail,i will sort this out.(I dont know who you are).

willsotaku and sergie please drop me a mail,I will have a look into this.

If any of you struggle with a support issue ,please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] / [email protected] and i will try to help. But usually that is not necessary because our support staff is very sharp and fast!

We also re-branding our company to Sonic Telecoms, hopefully we wont be confused with Sonic Wifi from Overberg again.
We have coverage up to Sandbaai and will be in Hermanus within 3 months.

Thanks Adriaan already redacted, will drop you a mail along with Amanda.

Last night was the first night that I experienced horrible connection and pings... then I saw the news on mybb that it's not just me... :/

The game is unplayable (2k+ ms), if I connect to a VPN then it runs 100% smooth as silk (+-230ms). I've brought this up with support a few times now and I never get a concrete answer back. Are they purposefully throttling game traffic?

Ask support to disable your cambium QQS it might be what is having that affect since with the VPN it cant classify your traffic they installed cambium by me but when i found out contention ratios where causing my issues i asked them to remove that stuff asap cambium sucks balls for gaming.

I'm having the exact same issue with Diablo 3, unplayable at all... Last week was all fine, but noticed since the Egypt incident I can't play D3 anymore :(

Cambium, all pings and traceroutes look good, even pathping shows no packet loss. Yet in-game latency is this:
