Hi all

I'm new to the forum so please excuse me if this has been posted before...

I've just bought a new Sony soundbar, the CT350, and have a Sony Bravia 46EX500 LCD. I also have the black HD PVR, and a simple LG DVD player with HMDI up-scaling.

The PVR and DVD player run into the soundbar through HDMI cables (into specific, dedicated HDMI ports for DVD and satellite), then the soundbar is connected to the LCD through an HDMI cable as well. The picture and sound is awesome I must say!

However, I can't for the life of me get the bravia sync to work between the soundbar and the lcd. I've followed the manuals to the letter, have activated control for HDMI on both devices etc, but no joy.

Anyone come across this before? Could it be the HDMI cables themselves (not good enough quality?) I'm at a loss..

I'd really appreciate any tips or pointers...

Are you certain those devices are sync capable between each other? I don't think it will be the HDMI cable though.

thanks for replying Lupus.

I'm pretty sure they're both Bravia sync compatible - links here:

Apparently Bravia sync needs 1.3 or later HDMI cables...? I think i'm going to try the cables - they're super cheap from this website:

(Audiovision wants R1500 for a 1.4 HDMI cable - a gold plated high speed 1.4 cable is only R75 from HDCabling.co.za - worth a try..

Ah so the cables might be 1.2 or lower, that might be the issue, go with the guys from HD Cabling I've used them for a few things and their HDMI cables are good quality and cheap too. HDMI cables don't benefit from vacuum sealing, gold plating etc as much as an old RCA would, as it's a digital signal if it works it works.

Thanks Lupus. I hear you on the quality of the cable/signal - on what basis then can audiovision be asking R1500 for a cable?!

To update on the initial issue - I've managed to get partial syncing. So, I can turn on theatre mode on the lcd and turn off both systems with the ct350 remote, but the LCD won't recognize the ct350 as a controllable device, nor will both systems turn on when one is turned on.

Any ideas why / how it can work partially?

Possibly settings is all I can think of? What does the place you bought them from say?
Also remember that old saying there is a sucker born every minute? Those are the people who buy R1500 hdmi cables and then say I can see the difference ;-)

Bought from the Sony centre at the Waterfront in CT and Tafelberg Furnishers - neither are particularly helpful and both have referred me to Sony's Mastercare. They're yet to get back to me. My suspicion is that the pace PVR might be the spanner in the works. Multichoice are of course no help though.

Pity those suckers...!
