Hey all, Im buying a new mobile phone. Im willing to spend R3500-R4000. I want something stylish and I have the Sony Ericsson k850i in mind. Any experiences with this phone? Any other phones I should look at?
Also is CaCELL a good place to buy?

All advice/recommendations will be greatly appreciated, and I would not be able to express my gratitude, eloquently enough.

I might have one for sale if you're interested. PM me an offer.

Stay away. I've got one.. and the latest firmware upgrade has brought with it these two issues:

1. If I dial a number that is not in my phone book, I cannot cancel the call until it starts dialing.
2. When someone calls that is not in my phonebook, the call is not logged and I cannot call them back. This goes for incoming calls, outgoing calls and missed calls.

Other than that it's fine... but these two issues can be frustrating.

I know other people with the same issue, and it's happened after the last firmware upgrade. Apparently it's a common problem. I loved my phone before that.

Thanks shogun, I can live with that! Any comments on the Aesthetic aspects? You can always change it back to the old firmware!

Hi, i got a K850i about three months ago and its been an absolute pleasure to own. Its an amazing phone. The keypad layout and the touch buttons are different but after about a week you become accostomed to them and it becomes second nature. Now my friends think im crazy when i pick up their phones and try to use them by always touching the bottom of the screen. It really is intuitive after awhile. My last 3phones have been sony ericssons and this one continues to please. The 5mp camera on the K850i kicks the N95's ass it really is amazing. I have the latest Generic firmware (R1FA35) and i dont experience any of those problems that have been mentioned. Multitasking is fantastic as wel. I can be on mxit, opera mini and hook up it up to my laptop and connect to hsdpa while still using the phone to mxit. Easily the best phone ive ever owned. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I've had this phone for about 2 months now, and I LOVE IT. At first when I bought it it gave lots of problems but it turned out to be a very rare manufacturing fault (my luck ). After it got replaced (yes it was that bad) I totally loved it.

The thing about the call logging, I've never experienced before (I'm on R1FA035 generic), so I don't know what that guy is doing. One of my friends has a C902 and it is basically the same phone, the c902 is just slimmer and has some other small differences.

I got my K850i for R2100 on BidorBuy though (Http://www.bidorbuy.co.za), so CaCell as a little expensive. If you are willing to spend that much, maybe you should rather wait until some more Sony Ericsson's gets released, believe me, there are a lot in the pipeline. The K850i is 2 years old you know.

Cheers:)

Thanks alot Sitnet, yes Im aware the K850i is two years old now but its everything I need. I dont see any significant differences in the Sony lineup. Yes the 8 megapixels will come but other then that? Im also reluctant to buy a new phone because it usually takes like a whole year to iron out the firmware problems.

I think the k850i is just SLEEK!
