Sony Ericsson P990i

Wellll I have no decided to go for a fresh start like I haven't in AGES! My phone would hang several times today and I would have to keep the power button in to restart it, so I've now decided to do a firmware upgrade, and to do everything fresh, and enter in my contacts one by one since i need to trim that in outlook as well. wish me luck this could take days!

Tell me about it!

Took me long enough to change all birthday reminders on my P990i's calendar to 'anniversary' - I brought it straight over from Outlook with a sync (P910i), but it screwed up my P990i's calendar. For some entries, I had three reminders.

It must be the 'holy grail' of firmware updates, before I'll attempt one again.

I wish it was that easy.

I am getting "unspecified errors" when I try connect. USB Modem is attached to COM 8. Do you connect using the Mobile Networking Wizard in the PC Suite? How do you kickstart it? How did you initially get it working? Please can you share your settings.

Thanks
M

Hi micstr

Sorry for the late reply. Got a bit busy @ work and @ home.

hmm.. don't know what advice to give. I got mine working first time by using the wizard when I installed the pc suite at the beginning. No real settings to share.

I recommend you completely uninstall and reinstall you pc suite from scratch and try again. After install, reboot you machine, and wait for the New connection wizard to auto launch (after reboot). Strictly follow the instruction. Don't connect your phone during initial install before reboot.

Try this and let us know.

Cheers

Hey kvi!

Good to hear from you! BTW, what kind of work do you do that you are now in Nigeria for 3 months?

Email the people who's got your phone. Keep them on their toes while you're away.

It would seem everyone is happy with their P990i?

My last restart 'to improve performance' was on Friday...

*Just one or two major firmware updates...

So far, I haven't had a single restart to improve performance. I'm on my phone all day long, smsing, phoning, checking my facebook!

Granted, I do restart it myself about once a while, say every 3-5 days!

An I'm reasonably happy with mine.

stopped using SWM. I do restart my phone occasionally - +-5 days. touch wood , never had an 'improve performance' restart in a long time. (pretty ,much after my trial of SWM expired and I stopped using it , come to think of it.)

If I can just get my P990 to behave like my P910 - I will be using my P990 for a very long time... ;)

I think we're one major firmware update, and one minor one away from pure success. If they can just get it right.

I find with the latest firmware, my alarms don't reset. Ie if I tick it today, it'll go off all week! Interesting addition, I quite liked having to chose to set the alarm.

Oh, and my other big gripe - the focus of the camera. It's really hard to take a good picture with the crappy auto focus...

Mine works OK... (latest fw). But then I do get the out-of-focus pics in between.

Exactly what I'm talking about. Every time you take a piccie, you're not sure what you're gonna get. Oh dear, it almost sounds like Forrest Gump - 'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get next.' :)
