Ah, text back to normal again.

I have another question: is there any known issue with the vibrate function of this phone? Mine doesn't seem to be jiggling when it should!

You sooooo funny!!:D

Did the upgrade yesterday. Didn't notice any huge differences. I must admit I was a Nokio fan, Had a chat to a lady with the P910. She freaked so much i waited for a two month period after my upgrade was due. Happy with the phone. But just not happy with the way SE is handling the situation. I will definitely not upgrade to another SE smart phone. :(
My wife has the M600 and the keyboard is not very user friendly. Looks as if they went the same way with the P1.

Any way thats my 1c worth.

Not that we know of. Check your Vibrate settings in the control panel, otherwise RTFM :D

Cheeky lizard. Vibration seems to be working now, checked the settings again. I also realised it stops vibrating if you press mute when receiving a call (as well as stopping the ringtone obviously). Probably makes sense when in a very quiet environment where you can even hear the vibrate...

Vertigo

try Nicecalc, on the my-symbian software shop, it's in the catalogue.

It really is....nice !

Ai, Piesang! Go back to your nokio threads. :p

Might I add that when Series 60 started there was very little software available, and the change in platforms also meant that software had to be rewritten for Series 60 (as it has been for UIQ 2 to 3). The situation is the same, UIQ 3 hasn't been available to users for even a year yet (I believe the M600 only came out in July last year).

Well I just have to share this 'find' with you guys.

I've been looking for an app to replace the excellent 'the Pad' for UIQ 2x.

Even the memo pad apps I've tried take a few seconds to load up.

This is a tiny little text editor app, found by one of the members at my-symbian.

It's got a small memory footprint so you can leave it running open in the background.

Clicking on it's icon instantly takes you to a text entry field with blinking cursor.

Click on ' Telecharger ' to download :)

Thank you, aqualung! I've been looking for something like this... you can read/speak French?

*I got a 'restart to improve performance' today. Got a sms and the phone restarted itself. So I'll have to get into the routine of switching it off every two days (defragmented memory) and then sommer wipe the screen, while I'm at it. :)

Yes high school french ;)

I've stopped running messaging in the background and with that my free RAM settles at between 7-8MB.

No restarts yet and I'm on 5.5 days uptime.

I have disabled the PIN and phone mode checks on my phone, so I can just press the restart button and forget about it.

We're waiting for the SE so-called 'management' to get back from their midsummer break next week, and face the music about the new FW glitches.

( I'm chuffed with this text editor though - soooooo useful ).

After reading this post I decided I WILL get myself a P990i. I just hope the MTN shop at The Glenn have stock when I go to get it. I am kinda excited like a boy on xmas eve...lmao

@ MavChat, you have courage my friend. Don't get me wrong - I love my P990, and would recommend it to anyone. But in my opinion, maybe watch the following threads to see whether Sony Ericsson is going to continue supporting their UIQ3 phones (P990, M600, W950) before you decide (we should know this coming week):

http://developer.sonyericsson.com/thread.jspa?threadID=39963&start=0&tstart=0

http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27799&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=4560

But I personally will be shocked if they do officially decide not to support the P990 anymore. They will loose too much face and will go against their reputation to fix their own bugs in the long run.

MavChat, I also love my P990i and have come to live the 'glitches' in the phone's OS, but I would perhaps look at the newer SE phones that's been announced recently (the SE W960 looks like it might become another SE legend, just like the P910i).

There is one fundamental flaw in the Symbian OS that runs on the P990i - the OS cannot reclaim all RAM when opening and closing apps, due to fragmentation. This means that the OS will eventually run out of RAM and the phone will restart itself to reclaim the RAM. So, even if the phone had 1GB RAM, it would still run out of RAM and restart itself, it will just take longer to reach that state. The Symbian 9.1 OS just cannot handle RAM properly.

Rumour has it that this has been fixed in the new beta Symbian OS, but the P990i is running Symbian OS 9.1 - and there is no plans/confirmation from SE to upgrade the P990i to the new OS in the future.

If the P990i is not upgraded to the new OS, SE drop support for it and they stop making P990is, I'll wait for a while till there is no more P990i's in circulation - and then my insurance company will get a claim for a P990i that has ended up under my car's front wheel. I'll get myself a new P1000 as replacement. ;)

So, there you have it - the truth will set you free. :)

Well I didnt get it... The guy at the W.I.C said its out of stock and has been for the last 3 weeks, also that production on the P990i has been discontinued. So I went with the Nokia N70-1 Music Edition. I also realised that because I wanted it so I can edit my websites on it but I got the laptop for that now...so I got a phone that I can use and not need my MP3 player either.

Remote for P990

Hi there
i had a very nice little program on my P800 back in the day. It was a remote app that used the IR to replace remote controls for your TV, DVD etc.

Did a quick Google and did not come up with anything solid. Anyone seen one or been using one?

Psilock originally wrote this app for UIQ2, but nothing for UIQ3. Pity.
