Yes but that's not very......elegant.

Unfortunately the messsage posting there doesn't talk nicely to my mac....wouldn't display the italicised bits ( good for effect ).

The mood on my-symbian is rather combative right now ( as opposed to the relaxed mood that prevails on this thread :) ), as an apparently very reliable source has revealed that SE will not continue to support the P990i ( no more FW updates etc.)...and presumably expect us to now buy the P1i :sick:
 
sorry kingrob... i try stay away from too many ms products... firefox for me :)

but all sorted and installed and happy now anyways

I think it sums up most of the P990i owners' feelings about their beloved phone.

Must say I seem to be less unhappy with my P990 than other users seems to be. Maybe I just don't push it as much.

I am concerned that support for the P990 could be ending. While I am broadly speaking happy with mine their are still unresolved issues.

I agree that the communication from SE to their smartphone users has been less then ideal. They are a loyal bunch, alternative thinkers in many ways. Their loyalty has not been rewarded and dropping support for the device could see many migrate away to alternatives. SE dont seem to realise that they will have almost no one to sell to and will have invested a whole bunch of money for nought on the new product if their diehard fans drop them and flame on the global web community.

All the advertising spend in the world will not compensate for the active flaming they will receive. All the development money spent on top guys, research etc for the new product will not compensate for the flaming they will receive. They may as well write off the current smart phone customer base and well as the next three generations of smart phone and the the associated investment in products and resulting sales loses now and just send those divisions home on paid leave and call them back in five years.

It's a very good point. Indeed the problem with loyalty is that once broken it is very, very difficult to build up again. The sad thing is that SE seemed to put a lot of effort in the past to build trust and loyalty with its customers. I was one of those that they managed to impress with their products that seemed so customer focused, useable and well supported. The latest news certainly shakes my trust in them and should they do something stupid as the rumours are suggesting, I would probably become very disillusioned as would many of their other loyal supporters. However, I would like to believe that these are just rumours (maybe even started by other manufacturers in a some kind of underhanded, but clever strategy!)and that SE will continue to deliver on their promises. They have an excellent foundation on which to build and good market support, so let's hope they can come through!

Some things said in the letter may seem harsh, however I stand by them.

I was really hoping my P990i would fly after this latest FW - silly really.
I'm still happy with my device and it still does what I need it to. Having said that I'm aware of the RAM limitations so have set the phone up to work within it's limits with the aid of SMPro. And fortunately the (only ! ) thing I don't use it for is email so those issues don't plague me.

But there is still a memory leak ! Oh, and now LCG jukebox is misbehaving :(

It's amazing how ...polarising this device has been, as witness the many heated discussions around it's pro's and cons on internet forums.

It has inherited an amazing aura from it's predecessor and much of the bitterness that's surfacing is more than just that of unsatisfied customers.

SE don't seem to realise that the P910i was the crystallisation of marketing nirvana - a product which transcended the normal bounds of brand loyalty and inspires some kind of emotional "love it" feeling in it's users / fanbase ( much as Apple has achieved with some of it's products. )

This fierce brand loyalty is what all marketing is aiming at.

Few products achieve it. And most companies recognise it when it occurs and do everything they can to nurture it !

I had to wipe away a tear after the fourth sentence. Aqualung, you write with so much passion - and I feel exactly the way you feel.

SE had such a golden opportunity with the P990i, after the killer that was the P910i, but it seems they don't really care to follow up a big success with another one!

*I just want to add that my P990i works extremely well after the update, haven't had any problems with it. Very happy with the camera now.

No, kvi, don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY P990i, but just wish that SE would fix the bugs in the software. I think that is what aqualung and all P990i owners want.

Hell, I'm so scared that I might not find a phone like the P990i again, I'm seriously considering buying another one (as a backup) from Expansys. :)
 
LCG Jukebox

Hi aqualung

I have the same problem with LCG Jukebox. It just makes a pulsating sound (even softly on the external speaker), and don't play at all. Built in Media/music player works fine.

So typical of all the SE firmware updates! No wonder 3rd party developers are not interested in developing apps for the P990i... :mad:
 
I love my p990 too. I have liked the symbian phones since my first one the P800. i just feel that the communication and implementation of firmwares around this phone has been lacking. The loyalists among us wont be that way forever if SE keep up their current way of dealing with customers.
