After 12 hours with Messaging in the background, RAM down to 6.3M

reboot - 14.9M

only opened SMPro and Messaging to run in background...

12.3M
and hour later 12.1M
now 11.7M

:(:(:(:( This phone is breaking my heart:(:(:(:(
 
Aqualung, I think your firmware update might have gone wrong, or there is a message, SMS/MMS, that's causing problems.

I loaded Messaging, Contacts, Calendar & Picture Gallery in memory last night, had 5.8MB RAM free and this morning it's still on 5.8MB free RAM.

Also impressed with Cell Information, my battery was on 68% last night and this morning it's on 63%, with four programs running in the background.

Yes I may try the master reset / reflash / don't restore settings option later this week.

Unfortunately feedback on the forums so far seems to indicate that apart from the inimitable ares, other users have the same problem with memory leak from Messaging :(

I'll give it a few days and see how it goes ( apart from this the FW update has been OK so far, with some pluses as you pointed out ).
 
I did a master reset just before I updated the firmware.

Will keep an eye on Messaging and see how it goes, but so far everything seems fine.

Really like the new PC Suite's Backup/Restore program! I restored everything on my phone in less than 3 minutes. All mailboxes, personalised settings, etc.
 
Well this new FW definitely has it pros and cons.. Overall the phone is improved in spite of the memory management not sorted out. And then there is the silly space bar bug that will irritate me endlessly since I use my phone without the flip.

I must say, I'm really impressed with the battery life when using this phone as a basic phone.
I had quite a hectic weekend, so my P990 didn't get much attention (only used it for a few shortish calls, but not too much walkman, videos, games etc). After charging it on Friday morning, it lasted Friday, Saturday, Sunday and this morning and is still at 45% battery life. I don't think that's too shabby. :cool:
 
Hi guys, can I check something with you? It's my first FW update, big moment for me! :p

After upgrading to "Firmware R6D23" are the rest of the versions as follows:

Organizer: CXC 162036 R6D23
Phone: CXC 162037 R9G007
Bluetooth: CXC 162058 R5A01
CDA: CDA 162007/1 R6D23

So when they release the latest Firmware (e.g. "Firmware R6D23" in this case) does it always include the latest updates for all the other software as well?
 
Wynsam, it's on the firmware thread page 424 or so at the my-symbian forum, unfortuantely you need to be logged in to read attachments, I'll post it up here when I get time later today.

help rob.... i downloaded the update service program... "Update Service Setup 2.7.4.8.2" it installs fine and when i run the app it says ... incompatable macromedia version... go to macromedia dot com etc... so ive done that and installed latest flash and shockwave etc but still nothing.... geez what am i doin g wrong?
 
I just updated my existing Update service program and it installed the firmware update without any probs.

Think I've seen the macromedia error discussed on My-Symbian... will have a look.
 
tried various uninstalls and reinstalls of flash and seus service .... no luck. searching my symbian now
 
sorted.... do google search for standalone flash installer... download it rather and install it... all fine :)
 
Well vertigo welcome to R6D23.

It's a reasonable FW update . I'm not ecstatic though.

I'm annoyed that there is now a bug where LCG jukebox doesn't run half the time.

With the dreaded Messaging app open since yesterday ( 22h ) my free RAM has settled at 7.4M, however phone wasn't used much today.
Watch this space :rolleyes:

* How do I attach something ? Posting rules at the bottom say I can't !
