I have a HP Deskjet 450 and using that with QuickOffice (http://quickoffice.com) and the HP software from SonyEricsson.com I can create and print my documents on the go with my P800. Quickoffice comes standard on the P910.

You can also print any .txt file via infrared but it uses a standard font, not sure which, as well as pictures taken with the phone but they dont come out very big when printed.

Just a sidenote here, the P990 is not backwards compatible with software from the previous phones in the P-series. All software will require a recompile at least, or maybe even a rework, due to the OS's stricter control on what they are allowed to access and how.

QuickOffice also ships on the P990.

Though seeing an IR / BT printing app for UIQ3 will be awesome :) Can you post a link for that, please?
 
Hi: I got my P990i about two weeks ago. Been reading all your posts, but onyl decided to register and start posting today. Been getting kernel .exe errors on the phone. Took it to Vodacare to reload software - still the same error: What is Swiss Manager? Two other problems I'm having - can't seem to make video calls: ' 3G netword in currently unavaible' How do I fix this? Lastly - how do I browse the web on the phone. Really enjoy your guys' info.

That triangle will always appear in any window where you want to type...

It divides the writing area into three parts -

above the triangle, write numbers
below it, write letters
at the level of the triangle, writing here will produce capitals

so if you write "s" below the triangle, it comes out as "s", above it, "s" will come out as "5"

Swiss manager comes with setup options available on install if I remember, however if you think about it , it makes sense to have it running in the background .

Click on SM in the control panel, now click on the arrow at the top of the screen, it pulls down some options including "Settings"--> suggest check " cleanup on closing flip" and "cleanup when idle"

I went into control panel: What is SM? MY Vodafone P990i seems messed up. Lots of errots. @kingrob - you been reading my posts on esato ! :p I did get a response from one of the guys who has been creating most of the new SE themes on SE-UIQ, he will make one for me .

Swiss Manager is a third party app. It is free and pretty much a prerequisite for optimising the memory and resource management on the P990.
Google cellphonesoft, there is a link with a .hu name, go to downloads, download SM, install on your phone.

Interesting remark about the memory problem of the P990i...

A very strange thing is... M$ and HTC seems to have learnt their lessons from the tons of complains for their older WM devices. Hence from WM5 onwards, HTC seems to be using the same memory type as P910i/P900/P800 on all their designs. SE, however, went backward and uses the same kind of cheaper memory types that older generations of WM devices are using, specially for all their UIQ 3 devices

Because the cheaper type of memory modules does not support Execute-in-Place (XIP) as the ones used in P910i/P900/P800, all applications (including Symbian OS itself) needs to be loaded at boot time, hence taking up a substantial amount of RAM memory space out of the 64MB of RAM memory that is available on UIQ 3 devices today. This explains why the P990i, having a "whopping" 64MB RAM memory in theory, ended up having left with only a miserable 15MB after the OS and all its applications are all booted up. This also explains why UIQ 3.0 devices took such a long time to boot up, because each time the phone is started, up to almost 50MB of OS and application files are being loaded up into the RAM memory... so how fast can the boot time be?

It's hard to believe that Sony went low-budget on their flagship phone, but it makes sense with the 57 second boot-up time...

hey, i just had a thought: if SE did use cheaper memory in the phone and that it loads everything up at startup coz it does not have that specific function to load it up while the fone is on, then will SE ever be able to fix the memory problem with a firmware update coz if the above is true then it seems that the memory problem is a hardware one and not a software one. Any Thoughts?
 
Hey, Me again.Just a query, My SM does not have a setting to "close apps when idle" and if i use the phone a close the filp more than 3 times it stops displaying the "Closing apps" feature and seems to stop closing apps coz whenever i check the task manager after closing the flip 3 times it still has apps running? is this normal? i have never used SM before and just need a nug in the right direction. Also, dont know if i read this correctly but esato is saying that new F/W will only be out in week 5 = end of jan/begining of feb?!?!?!?!?!@#$4$&%:(

@ForMFacTor - even if you have SwissManager as opposed to SwManager Pro, it should still give you the option to 'cleanup when idle' according to the documentation on the cellphonesoft website.

Yes, new F/W only out next year it seems ! ( if you have Organiser version R3B01 your phone should be behavingitself tho' )

The king feels a bit unhappy that the queen takes every opportunity to stick her tongue out - the humble servants of the kingdom might see this in the wrong way & it might encourage more wenches to do the same at home.

Next time this happens the king might consider a 'spanking' for the queen. :)
 
i really think SE engineers and suits have thought thru the "problems" of throwing in cheaper memory..... me thinks they much cleverer than us plebs speculating on smartphone memory modules :)

Or they had some product recalls, the PS3 is costing them a fortune to manufacture - and they need to save some money.

Been browsing this forum and decided its time to make my first post:D

Got my P990i last week and I'm thoroughly enjoying my new phone, no major problems yet...touch wood... though i am getting a few TAGMA errors whilst using Mig33 as a MSN chat portal, any idea how to fix it, really missing chatting to msn buddies via my cellphone...:(

I installed the latest Agile Messenger but i can't seem to log in, eMSN as well
Gmail App working fine as well as GoTalkMobile...

Swiss Manager Pro is a MUST get !!!
