Popped in at Metro shop in Vodaworld and saw a 2GB mem duo pro stick for R1129 - not bad.
You can buy a SanDisk 2G Memory Stick at Tafelberg Furnitures for approx. R950, and prices dropping on monthly basis. I bought mine there 2 weeks ago for that price. For you guys that's not in the Cape, find out if they do perhaps have franchises up there. When it comes to Sony products (or related like Sandisk), they've got the best prices. Been buying all my Sony products (and other brands) from them over the past 12 years - and I'm referring to my Sony Flat screen, Sony Hi-Fi, Sony Video Machine, Sony DVD player, Sony Cybershot camera(s), Sony AV-Home Theater system, Memory Sticks etc. (as you can see I'm a bit of a Sony freak). You can't get better prices anywhere else (I'm not even working for them & getting commission!)
Coming back to the phone - I'm glad to hear some of you guys finally received the phone. Kingrob, it's truly a great phone and worth the wait. I've been experimenting this weekend with a "blueteeth" GPS receiver and hooking it up with apps like Smartcom Navigator, Wise Pilot, TomTom etc. Works great, but pity they don't come with SA maps... Won't invest money in it yet before I see worthwhile SA maps associated with it. Anyone out there know of UIQ3 GPS software with decent SA maps?
I'm nearly through my second week with the P990i, and I'm still impressed. I am a bit disappointed now with the battery life, but taking in account how much I'm still playing/experimenting with the phone, it's actually doing quite well for a smartphone of its caliber. And you can't judge a phone's battery life based on the first month's usage of a (new) phone. Still too much of a new toy to be realistic about it.
I am getting a bit irritated with the low RAM issue although I knew all to well about it before getting the phone (refer to my earlier mini-informal-review in this thread). I reallly hope they sort this out with newer firmware releases. I just can't imagine that the OS running basic system phone&pda Apps in the background uses up about 50MByte of the available 62Mbyte of RAM!! With memory being so cheap these days, they really could have added another 128M for extra measure (and peace of mind) with a SLIGHT price increase. With mass producing these phones, the price increase would not have been that much per unit.
With Swiss Manager working over time, I can free up about 12Mbyte max (if I'm lucky). What do you guys get?
All in all, still happy with my phone. And I'm keeping the Faith..
