Sony Ericsson P990i

Any one now how to check your delivered reports on your sms's?

When composing a SMS, in Flip Open mode, click on the title bar, where it says SMS with a down arrow, select Settings and tick "Delivery report".

How would a person close applications if you didnt use swiss manager I have installed it just curious?

You can use the built-in Task Manager. In the Vodafone branded one you cannot close apps, AFAIK. In Flip Open mode, click on the bottom right icon that looks like two parallel arrows towards the left and right.

@kingrob - that's not a bad price. I've got my eye on one of those for Xmas

@Bruce000 - don't apologise for asking questions ! :p Just glad you got your phone at last ! Yes it is a steep learning curve, I knew my P910 backwards and when I got this phone I got "lost" in the UI ! ( Still do occasionally :p )

Sounds like the conference was fun :)

Yes, it was. :)

There were some really good presentations, wish you could listen to what Neotel is planning. I thought Neotel would get a few land-lines going and that would be it, but they've got big plans for this country. And the backing of some major investors.

Sentech was the big looser, I think it might be because they got complacent after being awarded the contract for the World Cup and that made them 'lazy'.

And I won a cool 3G USB modem!! :)

*I nearly bought the 2GB memory stick, but thought it would be wiser to get the phone first...I've got a 512MB stick in my P910 and might use that in the P990 for the time being.

Congrats on your prize ! I read about it in the thread you started earlier...pics ! :p

The mp3 player on this phone sounds to me as good as my iPod...so I reckon I'll need those Gigs...you can never have too much storage space ! ;)

One of the many things I love about this phone is how much functionality now exists in FC mode...you can do virtually anything as in FO ( except...use word/spreadsheets, browser and for some reason the calculator still not enabled for FC ! Otherwise anything goes ! Even 3rd party apps like Handy Expense are fully functional in FC . Nice . )

Very true, wise queen. :)

I've got the Sony NW-E005F Walkman (2GB) and when you start copying music, before you know it, 2GB is full...just one more CD!

Actually incredible to think you've got a mobile phone with a storage capacity of 2GB RAM - and people are talking about 8GB.

Yup.

I've got my music 'archived' on my 60G iPod..but I reckon having 1G of music on hand is enough...

I don't think anyone has yet seen the mythical 8G MSPD memory stick the P990is supposed to support...

It won't be long, most generous queen.

*How did the 2-day course go? Guess that brain of yours need a 'high octane level' of information for stimulation? :)

yeah it was interesting thanks...the hi-octane was provided by formalin fumes ( we worked in a cadaver hall )...;)

Wonder where all the others are ? We seem to be hijacking this thread ! ;) ( Maybe it's a good sign that their P990 ownership is trouble-free..:) )

I just watched the Mowing the meerkat down video on off-topic...hysterical !!!!

Have you seen the Borat movie yet ?

Hmmm...I guess it's a race between the screen protector and phone, which gets to you first ;)

I think it will be the screen protector. :(

Ordered one for my P910i as well, excited to give it a try. I really do write a lot on my screen and maybe I can 'save' my P910i screen before it's too late...

What are all you P990i users getting in battery life?

Popped in at Metro shop in Vodaworld and saw a 2GB mem duo pro stick for R1129 - not bad.

You can buy a SanDisk 2G Memory Stick at Tafelberg Furnitures for approx. R950, and prices dropping on monthly basis. I bought mine there 2 weeks ago for that price. For you guys that's not in the Cape, find out if they do perhaps have franchises up there. When it comes to Sony products (or related like Sandisk), they've got the best prices. Been buying all my Sony products (and other brands) from them over the past 12 years - and I'm referring to my Sony Flat screen, Sony Hi-Fi, Sony Video Machine, Sony DVD player, Sony Cybershot camera(s), Sony AV-Home Theater system, Memory Sticks etc. (as you can see I'm a bit of a Sony freak). You can't get better prices anywhere else (I'm not even working for them & getting commission!)

Coming back to the phone - I'm glad to hear some of you guys finally received the phone. Kingrob, it's truly a great phone and worth the wait. I've been experimenting this weekend with a "blueteeth" GPS receiver and hooking it up with apps like Smartcom Navigator, Wise Pilot, TomTom etc. Works great, but pity they don't come with SA maps... Won't invest money in it yet before I see worthwhile SA maps associated with it. Anyone out there know of UIQ3 GPS software with decent SA maps?

I'm nearly through my second week with the P990i, and I'm still impressed. I am a bit disappointed now with the battery life, but taking in account how much I'm still playing/experimenting with the phone, it's actually doing quite well for a smartphone of its caliber. And you can't judge a phone's battery life based on the first month's usage of a (new) phone. Still too much of a new toy to be realistic about it.

I am getting a bit irritated with the low RAM issue although I knew all to well about it before getting the phone (refer to my earlier mini-informal-review in this thread). I reallly hope they sort this out with newer firmware releases. I just can't imagine that the OS running basic system phone&pda Apps in the background uses up about 50MByte of the available 62Mbyte of RAM!! With memory being so cheap these days, they really could have added another 128M for extra measure (and peace of mind) with a SLIGHT price increase. With mass producing these phones, the price increase would not have been that much per unit.

With Swiss Manager working over time, I can free up about 12Mbyte max (if I'm lucky). What do you guys get?

All in all, still happy with my phone. And I'm keeping the Faith..

Thanks, Gecko, I will shop around for a better price, but that price is for an original Sony memory stick duo. Mind you, so far I had no problems with my 512MB Sandisk memory stick.

I'm also a HUGE fan of Tafelberg Furnishers! Their prices are excellent (if you're not buying on credit, that is :)) and they always have the latest stuff. I bought my first Yamaha surround amplifier and speakers from them and that's where my love for A/V Hi-fi started. I just hope by now they're stocking Panasonic plasmas...

I am looking forward to getting my P990i (queen aqualung's advice :)) and I think it should be a worthy upgrade from my P910i. So, in the mean time I'm collecting all extras for the phone - the screen protector that aqualung mentioned, is worth it's money & I'm also looking at the phone cover she posted a link to. I had the Krussell for my P910, but after a while reverted back to the Sony one - the Krussell is a serious overkill.
