Sony Ericsson P990i

I've been investigating the 'memory leak' that occurs on the P990i, but haven't seen it eating away the memory.

I've loaded contacts, calendar, messaging, tasks & Speed contacts into memory & when I went into status, it showed that I've got 8.3MB of memory left. That was yesterday.

Checked this morning and there is still 8.3MB RAM left? I guess I'll have to test it a bit longer...

*My P990i's battery life is really good, I'm almost on day 3 with 71% left, but haven't used it 'heavily', i.e. bluetooth constantly on, wi-fi, or 3G. Also changed my backlight display to 65% - can't really see a big difference between 65% & 90%, maybe it's time for optical specs? :)
 
Thanks Aqualung, feel like a real idiot now. I really do appreciate your help. I do have one question though, maby it is for MTNDD. i have been trying to set up 3g wap and mms but after the settings are installed i still cant accsess anything. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi FormFactor, I really think you should RTFM (Read the Funky Manual) your P990i's manual & visit www.mtn.co.za .

You can go to MTN's web site, put in your phone number & they will sms the GPRS & WAP settings to your phone, you can also go to any MTN shop.

I think you are extremely lazy and one of those guys that wants people to do everything for them.
 
Hey Kingrob, sorry if i have offended you its just that my p990 was shipped with a manual in arabic or something, that is why i have been following this forum to help me with this phone, i have also phoned mtn about 8 times before i posted that thread but they never send the settings, i just needed some help with that and i did not know that you could do it from mtn's website. I am not LAZY!!!! just was delt a manual that i cannot understand. I am truley sorry if you took my threads from a different perspective as i just needed some help. Sorry again:o
 
aqualung, I couldn't help giggling at this wise-ass's response to your post about a transparent P990i theme - really funny! :)

maybe you will find a theme that is so transparent that you will see whats behind the screen. lol

Keep applications running

I notice sometimes after opening a new app after browsing and one wants to go back to the browser one finds it has been killed so one has to start from the begining again

I also notice if i leave the phone and nothing is done in open apps that they also close down

Any thoughts

6) Use SwissManager to close unwanted apps as you close the flip or when idle

I had my VC VLive branded phoned flashed at Vodacom Customer Care(Midrand) last week - takes about 3 hours to be done
Still cant get back onto VLive TV tho, but they are doing the generic flash

When the phone starts getting low on memory it kills off applications in memory. This was particularly a problem with firmware before R3B01 where Opera used up almost all the phone's memory, so it either caused other apps to die or was easily killed off itself.

In previous P-series phones the applications was run form the memory stick directly, and only data was stored in memory. With the P990 all applications are loaded into memory before they are executed, so code and data will be present.

But this will depend on your usage. If you open up lots of apps, then I can understand it, but not if you're just leaving it running. I would use Swiss Manager or the Status menu option to check the free memory every now and again.
 
ok one week on the phone done.... ALL HAPPINESS (besides the meerkat )

phone is rock solid, swiss manager quietly doing its job. my perspective on things is... when you get a new phone, especially this one, you will be sitting on it playing with it NON STOP for the first couple of day. so much to learn and see and experience.... during this time you WILL crash the phone, as a million apps are opened and closed and jumped between in the background. battery life will be SHOCKING as the poor screen has to keep shining bright ALL day long....

then

the novelty will wear off, and the phone will start doing what it was designed to do.... WORK!. i still use the phone often during the day, but now its rock solid. havent had a crash in days. battery life has improved to a couple days now it feels like.

I dont know the full specs of the P990 but I have discovered a cool app for the Pxxx series to print via bluetooth to any bluetooth enabled HP printer.

I have a HP Deskjet 450 and using that with QuickOffice (http://quickoffice.com) and the HP software from SonyEricsson.com I can create and print my documents on the go with my P800. Quickoffice comes standard on the P910.

You can also print any .txt file via infrared but it uses a standard font, not sure which, as well as pictures taken with the phone but they dont come out very big when printed.
 
The only thing that bugs me a bit is that the phone doesn't worn you before the battery dies. It's happened on several occasions that there was a small bit of battery life left and when i get to the office about an hour later. The phone is off.:mad: That's one thing i liked about Nokia the phone warned you before it died. Not that i would change it for a Nokia, just an observation.
Maybe i should get a car charger like the KING.:D

True!! but the problem is when the phone is on your hip you can't see the light. And when the light flashes red it is already too late, if you don't have access to a charger there and then it doesn't give you enough time to get to a charger!:confused:

Lucky fish!!!! Down here it is our busiest time. No rest for us until all the Vaalies go home. I'm an ex vaalie so i can make fun of you oaks. It's just sour grapes, because we have to work while your on holiday.
