Sony Ericsson P990i

once off of 29 dollars.... so just over R100 . (compared to the price of your phone that nothing :)

but does ALL the msn's, yahoo, jabber, google talk etc

and its ROCK SOLID on the p990. been using it since p800 days.

heres a nice bit of help.... (hope we havent covered this already.. found this on another forum
..........................................

I got my p990 today and have it hooked up to my wifi at home with no problems. I can download internet pages but when i try and download a photo from a thumbnail i get message box 'not enough memory'.

I am not asking much of the phone really to expand a photo and my o2xda had no issues with memory.

Am i supposed to be configuring the memory myself ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I think I may have fixed it.

I had to change the cache from small to large in the configuration section on the internet page, now it works.

Hope this information is useful to someone else.

Thanks

ive never seen that error? others here might have... but not me. so im only guessing that its most likely your messenger app

Just a sidenote here, the P990 is not backwards compatible with software from the previous phones in the P-series. All software will require a recompile at least, or maybe even a rework, due to the OS's stricter control on what they are allowed to access and how.

QuickOffice also ships on the P990.

Though seeing an IR / BT printing app for UIQ3 will be awesome :) Can you post a link for that, please?

You can find printboy on my-symbian.com. the hp app is on the sonyericsson.com website just google "sonyericsson.com + hp" that should point you in the right direction.

I wonder if opera will work on the P990... I dont know what Id do if not coz it fits full web pages to the width of the screen. Can somebody try it? its on my-symbian.com its opera 6.31

My battery is on about 60% at the end of the day.

I have set the screen brightness at 60% ( more than enough for indoors, as you stated outdoors viewing is virtually impossible ), and , as on my P910, I have switched off the GPRS default connection ( the phone automatically switches it on for browsing, and kills it again on logging off. ) This last step seemed to get me an extra day of battery time on my P910.

I do not at this stage have a 3G SIM card. Apparently searching for 3G signal drains battery faster ...

Agree there is a noticeable ( well a second or two ! ) delay before opening some apps. I personally would be happy with less eye candy and a faster, more stripped down interface.

Hopefully new firmware will allow us to disable the transition effects. :o

Kingrob, dunno about the CPU being the culprit..is that explained by the fact that video acceleration speeds up the menus ?

Bug found. When on a call...no matter how much I select the speakerphone..it just won't turn on. Can anyone test theirs and tell me if their call is transfered to speakerphone?
Doesn't matter if it is flip open or closed..speakerphone just won't turn on.
have gone into the service menu, and the speakerphone is working..just unable to use it.
Hmm...

@ErnstF -

Select Control panel-->Connections-->Internet Accounts-->click the arrow at top of Internet Account screen-->Options-->Preferred Mode-->Select CS only.

The blue GPRS triangle above your signal strength indicator will blank out.
If you browse the web or receive an mms, the phone activates it automatically for the duration of the connection and switches it off again afterwards .

@Aqualung
Still enjoying my phone big time!! Just having a problem connecting my laptop to the voda (sorry to use the four letter word) phone network. so i cant chat to you guys from home anymore. I have reported it and i must say the service has been excellent!! Not as good as you MTNDD just giving credit where credit is due. They haven't sorted out my problem yet but at least giving me feedback.
Aqualung do you think MTNDD will get withdrawals while on holiday and check out our thread???:D
