Sony Ericsson P990i

This is an old niggle with bluetooth car kits - my SonyEricsson carkit does the same thing from time to time. Think it gets confused when I use too many bluetooth phones on it. :) (Mind you, my V3 Razr works better on my SE carkit than my P910 does!) :eek:

Here is what you need to do :

1. Delete your carkit from your P990i's bluetooth devices (mine is listed as HCB-300).
2. Switch off the carkit (hold in the power button) & switch it on again.
3. Turn bluetooth on on your P990i & tap 'bluetooth on' & 'visible to other devices'.
4. Let the carkit & phone find each other again and pair them. Think the default passcode for my SE carkit is 1234, or 0000, can't remember which one is right.

That should do it, let us know if it worked. :)

Hi Wynsam, I can recommend the following :

1. The original SE car charger for the P990i (you'll see the charger has a little flashlight & port where you can plug your handsfree into, ultra cool!) Dont' buy anything else.

2. Spare battery not necessary if you're getting the car charger. The battery is not too bad, but we want bigger & better.... ;)

3. Get yourself the Martin Fields screen protectors (really worth it, much cheaper than a new screen), you can order it from www.doml.com. If you fancy the crystal case for the P990i, you can order it from http://mobile.brando.com.hk/CrystalCaseP990i.php - normally takes 5 working days, but might be more...

Thanks Kingrob, but it didn't work.

I first tried deleting the paring, and re-pairing. Still cut off.
I then deleted all the pairings, and tried re-pairing - still cuts off!

Only incoming calls get cut off. I'm going to try the other P990i now to see if it's my phone - but I think it's just the incompatibility between the car kits. Dammit.
 
Interesting.

I tried the other P990i and it worked fine. So I reconnected my P990i and it works now too. I hope it works permanently and not just "for now". I'll report back! :D

Glad it's working. :)

My carkit does the same thing, works well for a few weeks and then starts cutting me off after a few seconds. It's like my iBurst modem, sometimes you need to unplug it & plug it in again...

I assume that is a car charger, Bruce?

The nice thing about the original SE car charger is that you can plug your handsfree into it - very cheap & cheerful 'carkit'... :)

Spoke too soon :D

Neither phone works, they both cut dead after a couple of seconds. *sigh* the one phone still has old firmware - and it lasts a little longer (20 Seconds as opposed to 8). Making calls works perfectly though.

I'm going to try get the car-kit software upgraded (if that's at all possible) and go from there...

No it's a Blue Tooth hands free car kit. You clip it on to your sun visor and it works just fine. Originally bought it for my nokia 6600 and then paired it with the p990 and it works 100%:D But your looking at about R700 for the unit. :(

Seems you have a HCB-300 too. I must admit I have no issues with that car kit, except for not being able to stream music to it over Bluetooth. Do you perhaps know if it is possible?

SE support said no, but they were kinda vague whether this is a phone or carkit issue. I doubt it's the phone, though ... it can stream music to bluetooth headsets, after all. I sometimes (well more than sometimes) doubt the competence of that helpdesk so I thought I'd ask other users of the combination.

Thanks for the info. I will get two, one for each car, the wife will use a SE w800 in the other vehicle.It will be first time we will be able to share chargers and other accessories. Makes life a little simpler.

Seems like a good way way for us to be able to use either phone in either car, we often swop cars. The site does not show the bottom of the holder so I don't know what one can plug into it.
 
IM IN BIG TROUBLE... thanks to my p990.

wonder if i will be the first person divorced coz of the 990...

so, i usually clear up the history on the phones browser, ag you know same as i get my firefox to clear each time it closes too... well so i think ok all nonsense is off my phone, so my wife decides to send an sms to a friend on my phone..

and thats where all hell broke loose. the phone remembers ALL text entered into it, so as she was typing the sms and entered a w, then up came wwwdot something. (and no it wasnt a porn site promise :) but it was something else that has got me into SERIOUS trouble. so even if your history is gone, any addresses you typed in ARE STILL THERE. BEWARE ONE AND ALL

right, who to start suing now... who's first?
