Sony Ericsson P990i

@wynsam - 3G

I tried opera mini now- didin;t have a lot of time to test and my version of opera speeks dansk even when I select english.

My phone starts with 13.2MB - then run opera mini.

close opera

use SWM to clean up and reclaim everything.

11.1MB free. no more.

wonder if some or other data controller has the leak ??

Update. I have since installed opera 3. In fact i am online with opera on my p990 while doing this post. I absolutely recommend opera. It is working much better than p990 browser. Uses very little resources and releases all of the memory on exit

Ok , me again.

To all the people out there with p990 's who want to use the webrowser.

download and install opera mini v3.00 . It works fantastically. I well surely never use the browser from Sony until they bring out an update. Then I'll try and see.

Opera is absolutely stable and uses very little system resources.

Hanno:) :) :)

Hanno, you just made my day - I can't stop giggling.... :)

The 'SonyEricsson web browser' on your P990i is Opera 8.65 for Symbian OS.

i use absa on my mtn menu .... ?

I had to do something to 'flush' you out of hiding? :)

Good to see you're still with us, kvi!! ;)

*I'm a Standard Bank client, so wasn't sure if you could use ABSA...

Kingrob

then so be it. Opera mini v3 works far better and is far more stable than the opera on p990.

BTW I do know that P990 uses opera. Didn't know what version though. fact of the matter is that mini3 work better, no leaks, very stable, even shows me the radr image i enquired earlier about.

BTW. I prefer to use the webbased banking. Could never quite get a grip on the mtn banking menu. I think it is the graphics driven menu vs text driven menu thing ????

Yes, MTN banking uses text, but it works quite well.

*Will download Opera Mini and take it for a spin, I've already installed it on my V3 Razr... ;)

P990 Rocks!! Rocks!!

Just in case others are looking at this thread and wondering if the P990 is worth the effort let me assure them its great. I am impressed. What a great business tool, does music well- just get a better headset, they are cheap. Most of the initial problems are out of the way now so go ahead and get one, you wont be disappointed. Get a larger Duo card and you will be amazed at what this phone can do, movies, music etc.

I have this suspicion that there might be a hardware memory controller problem on the phone, but I might be wrong.

If I'm wrong (and I REALLY hope I am!!), I guestimate two more firmware upgrades and we've got the best phone on the planet! :)

*Now SE must just hurry up and fix the last bugs in the software... :p

Wynsam - where can one get a better headset?
Anyone have any idea if there is an adapter available so that you could plug in a 3.5mm headphone jack?

Wynsam ,

make no mistake I totally agree.

How long have you had yours ?

Hanno

Just a couple of days, long enough to do an update of the phone, download the new SE PC suite and learn that I like this phone. My screen protector and crystal case are still on the way. I got it Tuesday, took it out of the box on Wednesday, sorted out porting and software on Thursday issues, and this morning used the phone on my WLAN, encoded some movies to the phone, watched them -- wow looked good, listening to music right now. The only this missing at the moment is a mapping solution for SA. But other than that its pretty much at the top of the pile!!

Right now I am using the W800 headphones -- they sound great, I have a set of HDS970 on order, looking forward to them.

They same site that has the screen protector sell a generic adapter for the 3.5mm headphones.

new SE PC suite ???

does it differ a lot from the one I got with the phone ?

do u have a link ?

Hanno

PS had my phone 4 about 2 months now. still works fine

Version 15, mine came with the version 14 software. I downloaded it from SE. Solved connection problems I had every so often.
