P990i with Parrot 3200LS

I'm a new member but has been reading the site for the past week. I got my P990i about a month ago from the Vodacare in Century City, Cape Town. After a week I realised that my personlised ringtones doesnt work when a contact calls who has been configured with a personlised ringtone, it only uses the default ringtone. After alot of troubleshooting I thought it was my Parrot 3200LS bluetooth carkit and I got that replaced with the latest model and latest software but the problem still persists. Everything is now pointing to the phone and yesterday I got it unbranded with the generic SE R7A001 software but last night when I got home my problem was there again after I had connected to the bluetooth carkit. Is there anyone that had the same problem and how can I resolved this?

Just got me a brand new P990i out the box! Was fortunate enough to have the screen protector and crystal case ready as it came out the box (thanks Aqualung!) - will let you guys know first impressions after the first charge....

Great news!
Take your time charging, and only start judging the phone after the latest firmware upgrade (Organizer R4A13) and installation of Swiss Manager Pro and possibly Tweaks Peaks if you interested (makes the phone much faster with disabling the transition effects). You can get these apps at: http://www.cellphonesoft.com/
The crystal case is nice, but mine broke after 1 week.. one of the clips on the side broke off, rendering it useless. The screen protector is a MUST.

You won;t believe how happy I am. Finally. Only problem now is that I'm really struggling to pair with by bluetooth carkit.Trying to fifure out if it's the phone or carkit.
@Gecko. Went to Vodacare shop and asked guys to debrandphone. The didn't know of understand what i meant. Gave me the number of on of Vodacom's senior technicians in Jhb. Phone him, explained my situaution - he referred me back to Vodacare shop. Phoned them again and only then did they know what I wanted. According to them you muct first go throught the channel before they can help you. Anyways - worth the effort. Now even got the latest FM and my backup's are restoring perfectly. Anybody need any phone number if they're struggling to get phone unbranded just PM me.

Why did SE not just make that a simple menu option on the P990. Do you want smoothed screen transition or do you want it fast. I cant believe the difference Twin Peaks makes. Seems so simple.
Lets hope it becomes available in the next firmware.

Hey, i have placed an add for my second p990 to be sold in the classifieds section of myadsl. its one month old and unbranded and comes with a 1 gig memory card and it includes the box with all accessories. i am asking 3800 to 4000 for it. If you now anyone who wants one just give me a call or PM me.

It won't be possible, unfortunately.
Big Ben is a UIQ 2.x application, and the P990i runs UIQ 3. UIQ has decided not to make it backward compatible. So unless Cellphonesoft releases a UIQ 3 version, there's no way to install it.

First impressions!
Okay, as a ex-P910i user, moving onto a P990i for first time, here are some random thoughts in random order:
- it is VERY different from a P910i!
- crystal case: great, just makes working around the borders of the touchscreen difficult
- screen protector: wonderful, but I have to press a little harder than I'm used to
- decent ringtones, and message alerts! (the P910i sucked in this regard!)
- can't get GPRS/3G data going (phone came with vlive settings loaded, tried settings from my P910i phone): when trying to connect: "Unknown error"
- screen is beautiful! (although surprisingly weak in sunlight!)
- I wish it was possible to navigate completely from the QWERTY keyboard and jog dial - seems you still need to use touch screen for some things....
- I miss being able to have custom shortcuts to apps from the main screen
- is there a way to access the "New..." menu in FC mode?
- is there a way to have the "Today" screen displayed by default in FC and/or FO modes?
- having decent SMS groups is great!
- the PC suite is much more elegant, and much easier to get connected! Just clumsy in that I have SEUS and Disc2Phone installed, but can't access either from the icons within PC Suite.
Lots more thoughts, but that's enough for now!
