Using 3g modem (over bluetooth) on Laptop

How have people used the 3G on their P990s to surf on their laptops? Any success?

Hanno you were trying to do this many many posts back. Did you have any luck?

When I use the Mobile Networking Wizard - everything is greyed out and it cannot find the device. (Even though there is a Bluetooth connection to the phone.) I dont know if firmware upgrades and resets have damaged this wizard.

Please can people who are getting this working share their settings.

I am surfing the web with my p990 as my only 3G connection.

however , I am using the docking station and usb cable.
I am not even going to try and get the Bluetooth going for that.

try that and see.

Ja, same here. Using USB connection with my P990, and surfing the net via 3G on my laptop. Works great (like it would on any pc). Get OKish speed for 3G. I think the speed is cell (tower) related.

Try USB.

I wish it was that easy.

I am getting "unspecified errors" when I try connect. USB Modem is attached to COM 8. Do you connect using the Mobile Networking Wizard in the PC Suite? How do you kickstart it? How didi you initially get it working? Can you share your settings?

Hi Hanno- sorry - more specifically:

Has anyone tried performing FNB internet banking using the built in standard phone browser, or Opera Mini add-on

I'm looking to get the phone through VM but need to be able to use the standard internet banking front end via a browser.

Hi Bruce!

No, the latest one is the January update. There was a minor update after that, but not enough to justify a whole system upgrade.

Will let you know when the next major firmware update gets released! ;)

I updated my firmware. It's a hassle in actual fact, gotta reload all the contacts, theme, set the ringtones, resetup email, resetup GPRS, MMS (gets downloaded but still), resetup Wlan, download the gmail app! Whew. It takes time!

Ok

I haven't tried FNB , but I do internet banking from my p990. I do recomend that you use the wap portal from the MTN Wap site or VM wap site.

I have manged to do absa internet banking from the website using opera mini3.

could however not get my standardbank account using the same browser.

the wap portal works fine. nthe vodacom4me wap portal has a banking link that works.

No but see if FNB have a mobile portal (fnb.mobi?). Investec does mobile.investec.com. Banking using this with normal web browser on phone works fine.
