Sony Xperia Z

Was going to go for this device but then after the reviews mentioned that the Bravia system only applies to when you watch movies, otherwise there is no bravia system applicable to the normal gui.... On that note how is the overall display crispness and color ...?

Hey Hey

My brother has ditched his iPhone for the Sony Z. He uses Mac OSX as his daily OS but cites Apple's complete and utter reliance on iTunes for everything (non jailbroken) iPhone as his reason for jumping platforms. I thought that it was a given he would go iPhone 5, but, he has chosen a non-Apple phone. He is the last of the iPhone owners in my family and friend circle.... all Samsung SIII, Nokia Lumia and now Sony Xperia Z owners.

I was wondering how the Sony Z will work with OSX... and will know for sure when he receives it tomorrow or Tuesday. Here's hoping the Sony Bridge plays nicely with his Mac.

Bravia engine is for photos and videos and really makes a noticeable difference compared to having the Bravia engine switched off. But overall I find the screen and its picture quality very pleasant to look at. I have read some reviews where people were complaining about the screen having a washed-out look but I have not experienced this. For me the screen is very crisp and clear with very good natural colour reproduction and even when just viewing webpages or playing around on the UI.

It is obviously no amoled screen, I personally dont like amoled screens anyways, but if that is something you like then rather go for a device with an amoled screen because the Xperia Z's lcd screen wont give you as wide of a contrast ratio as an amoled.

Just received first update for my Xperia Z via PC companion!!!

Still android 4.1.2 but new kernel and firmware

Not sure if I'm just imagining things but the device definitely feels even more responsive and faster. Also the screen seems to be a bit better in terms of crispness.

Noticed that the Xperia V also has an update available
 
I want both the phone and tablet. Sony is winning hearts and minds here ... big time. At last we now have Android devices that compares well in design and materials with what Apple offers. And then I do believe Jelly Bean has left iOS behind ...

Sony and HTC are turning the heat right up with excellent industrial design and use of materials ... no more Apple standing out in this dept.
 
No telephony on the Sony tablet, so no WhatsApp or USSD codes ... :-( . My Note 10.1 has telephony so I use What'sApp on it and make conference calls in meetings.

Lol....I still want the Tablet Z :D Dont know why but just feel like I must have it with my Xperia Z phone
 
That Tablet Z looks really cool, first tablet that I really desire after I got my Asus TF-700T.

(I briefly had an iPad 4, but I sold it after I realised that it couldn't do what I could do on my TF-700T)

When I tried to update the Xperia V it said no update available even though the device is not on the latest software. It was only released on the 10th of April so maybe its not yet available for us here in RSA......
 
saw one at a vodashop yesterday. stunning piece if kit. if I had an upgrade I would certainly go for this. and if the galaxy s4 was not around the corner
 
It is really a stunning phone, however there are a few niggles.
The external speaker is terrible, with or without the enhancement switched on.really low and crackly.
Signal quality is poor. Had a galaxy s3 and never had an issue. My phone is 90% of the time on Edge, as opposed to the opposite with the S3.
Voice quality is very soft, very hard to hear even with volume up all the way.

Almost regret buying, maybe should have waited for S4.
 
The Xperia Z is just too big and blocky to hold comfortable in your hand.

Played with one at a MTN shop & found it extremely uncomfortable to hold in my hand.

Sorry Sony, but what were you thinking?

You cant judge a phone by only holding it for a few minutes.....

For me it feels very comfortable and the big size is something I got used to pretty quick, as in a day or two.

But to each his own :)
