Sony Xperia Z1

I have another question. I haven't been brave enough to try the waterproof feature. I want to know if there is anything I need to do besides checking the ports are securely closed. Can the jack port and the docking station ports be exposed when the phone is submerged?

I know they updated the earphone jack to not need a flap, but still be waterproof.

So my guess is, if it doesn't have a flap, it's waterproof.

Yes, just make sure all flaps are closed, no need to worry about the rest. Had mine in the err...shower before. :whistle:
 
Awesome! From what I saw on YouTube it seemed like it was just the flaps. But I just wanted to make sure! Thanks guys!
 
Hey guys, has anyone got LTE working on their Z1? i am with MTN and have a 128k sim i just need to ask it to be enabled, but i am not going to bother if its not working.

I might make it into the CBD this weekend so I'll let you know.

edit: I really need a #@#ink cover for this phone. It's very prone to scratches :*(

I just got a cover from here and i am really happy with it. it didnt come with a screen protector though, but the cover is really nice, very slim... solid build so it doesn't make the phone feel bigger than it is.

I'm with MTN, I still had a full size sim, they gave me a micro sim that says LTE on it, at the time of collecting the phone.

Only time I do not get LTE is if it is not supported in that area.

You NEED to call them, 808, to activate LTE, else max HSDPA is all you will get...

thanks Venomous, I wasn't sure if the Z1's LTE signal range supported MTN's signal range, I will give MTN a shout now. how does LTE affect your battery life?
 
Hi, i'm seriously contemplating getting the Z1 on my upgrade next week just curious to find out if any of the sony dedicated media apps are supported in this country yet for movies or music. With both itunes and Nokia music store being available i'm hoping that Sony has made this function available.

I just checked now and for the music it looks like the trackID(sony version of Shazaam) uses the 7 digital store. not sure if you can buy from it with a SA credit card? as for the playstore google hasn't given access to music yet, they have just added books so i am hoping music is not far off. Shazaam uses the amazon store and again not sure if you can buy music from it with a SA credit card.
 
So after having my Z1 for just short of 4 weeks I have managed to crack the display... Threw my belt buckle onto the phone by mistake, it wasn't a hard throw. I think it just hit the phone a bad way like the corner of the buckle clipped it or something.

So much for the crack proof film that comes with the phone.

I believe that the S4 has 1 or 2 screen replacements as part of the warranty or something. I am surprised that the Z1 doesn't have anything like that since they claim shatterproof and what not for the screen.

Anyways so now I have a 9k paperweight that can switch on, LCD still works, buit the screen is totally unresponsive.

Luckly the phone is insured :) so will get it sorted soon I hope. Just hope that they have the parts since the model is relativley new.
 
Hi I got my Z1 yesterday and its an amazing phone. But one thing bothers me a bit. When I tap the front and back of screen I hear a faint ticking sound in addition to the tapping of my finger. Ive read another forum over on xda where other people report similar things, and they say its like this with most Z and Z1 devices. Can anyone here confirm this ticking sound when tapping? Is it something to worry about?

I would check with mine but I am only getting it back in 7 - 14 days :(

I cant hear it on mine, but i know the iphone 5 that i had there was a faint tick which was the lens for the camera, maybe its the same thing...

So yours sound completely...unified? I dont suppose the MTN store will replace it for this, theyll say its not a defect.
It is most noticeable near the camera, although also on the bottom corner opposite to the camera. But if your z1 doesnt sound this way then its got to be some kind of defect, albeit minor?

Will removing the shatterproof screen help with the issue of the screen not being so great from an angle

Can you hear it as well when tapping the top of the phone with your finger? I think I have something similar, but it doesnt make a strange noise when vibrating though.
