Sony Xperia Z1

Anyone else experience weak wifi signal on the Z1? I have a few Samsung devices in the house and it gets a much stronger signal. I have searched the net and it does seem to be an issue. No solution though.

I don't like AVG as an antivirus on a PC, so would not bring it near a mobile device. I'd rather have no antivirus on a mobile device than that.

ESET seems to work well. Buy it direct on their site, not from the google appstore, when I got it the playstore app had issues. ESET had the android app downloadable on their site.

But then again, the above is only my opinion, and I have not tried proving that either is better on a mobile device. This is based on my PC/AV experience where ESET appears to perform better.

Come to think of it, I can't recall having any issues prior to installing AVG.
 
Does anyone have a link for the stock firmware of the Z1 for MTN?

My colleague's Z1 had issues with ESET.

Avast on Z hasn't given any issues.
 
So uhm, yesterday in the gym my volume controls / power button started going bonkers. For example my music would randomly go completely silent, I took out the phone and turned up the volume only to have it automatically go down again. Power button also stopped working completely for a while. I really hope this was something to do with spotify rather than the phone itself.
 
I finally got my repaired phone (cracked screen) back 3 days ago. Damage was heavy, R4.6k - this was at the Voda Repair shop in Vodaworld at least it was covered by insurance. I must say I was a bit worried about the waterproof feature but I tested it in my swimming pool and I can safely confirm that the phone is still waterproof :D

After I collected the phone I immediatley went to buy a cover for the phone. I ended up getting a Bodyglove cover for R250, one of those with the front flap protector. I am not a big fan of the flap covers but I thought if I had this when I shattered the screen I would not have been i the situation in the first place. So I will just have to learn to live with it. I just don't like the fact that I have to open the front flap to get to the USB port when charging.

Otherwise the phone is still really good!

Sorry for the late reply but only got my phone back recently. I checked the ticking sound, with me there appears to be a faint ticking sound near the top of the phone only, rear and front. Is this the same as what you are experiencing?
 
Does anyone know when MTN will be rolling out the 4.3 update? I updated via PC Companion but now I've lost root. The only way to regain it is to have the old version with root and then do a survival OTA update.
 
Guys, I'm not getting LTE on my phone. I dunno what it is, I'm with VC and right now I am in JHB CBD. Surely there should be LTE coverage here, no? Maybe a setting? I did the automatic settings when I put my sim into the phone...

Any ideas?

OK for some reason my LTE APN disappeared I have added it, I also checked on the VC site where I am now is not covered by the LTE network. Will test it somewhere else later.
 
Hi guys,

Asking on behalf of a friend, he just got his Z1 from FNB today, and though the box was sealed, he never received any headphones inside. Did Sony not include headphones with the Z1 or was my friend unlucky?

I think you should take it back or speak to FNB, headphones were packaged with the phone. I got in both boxes I had.
 
Spoke to SONY and their response was that it must come from the vendor that way and some things aren't included by the vendor.
