I thought dropping did very little to it?

I remember a PR run of the Z and he threw the phone with no issues. We bumped them 1m high tables onto bricks for fun :/

Well Dolby, it smashed into a pointy part of a rock basically, so I think any phone would have cracked. Just bad luck.

Greeeaaaat. Dropped my phone last night, and the gods thought it fair that it falls screen first onto a pointy piece of gravel. Screen moer toe, touchscreen unresponsive. Got to call around to see what it's going to cost to replace, probably not going to be cheap. faaaaaarrrrrkkk.

If you're lucky it's only the glass and not the whole display that needs to be replaced...

wow.... That's not good. I know how it feels, dropped my HTC m8 last year as well... let us know how much it is please..

That's impressive. Not that you dropped it but that you managed to drop a phone that didn't even exist until March this year, last year. :p

Sorry it was the M7

I got the phone from FNB last week Friday and had chance to play around with it. I replaced my S4 with the Z2 to most of my thoughts will be based off that. Sofar I love the phone and I am really impressed. It takes a short while to get use to the feel of the phone but once you get use to it, it is great.

What I do miss from the Samsung is the accessories. The S-view cover was great giving you the ability to answer call's without having the open the cover. The Sony flip cover is terrible and makes it a mission to use the phone. The box you get from FNB is also quite limited. You do not receive the docking station for charging the phone and you receive the cheapest earphones I have ever seen. I went out and bought the docking station seeing as I don't always want to open the flaps to charge the phone. The docking station is a cheap piece of plastic that does not even include a charger and costs around R500, It is even a task just to get it to stand still on a counter. None of the covers I looked at fits into the docking station either except the horrible flip cover.

I did go out and bought the noise cancelling headphones for the phone and I must say they are truly amazing and probably the best sound quality I have heard from a phone. Only down side is there are no buttons on the headsets to change volume, track or answer calls.

From the phone's side I miss the slide to call but this is quite minor. The Walkman interface is quite good and easy to listen to music. The throw feature works great when using a smart TV but does not seem to support chrome cast. The camera LED is quite weak if you use it as a flashlight. The battery life is quite impressive and lots of ways to save power. You even get the ability to disable notifications from apps

All in all I do love the phone I just think Sony needs some help with their accessories. I wont go into depth about the amazing camera or any other features that you can find in a review just wanted to add some feedback for day to day use that I have experienced

@Splendid, what was the price on the noise cancelling earphones? R599 at xperiastore.co.za though no stock it seems. Delivery charge seems to be R99 when I added the DK36 charging dock to my cart.

I paid R550 at Vodaworld from the Sony store. Couldn't find it at the other stores. Well worth the money like I said the biggest downside was that it has no buttons on it, but the sound is amazing. The docking station is a cheap piece of plastic that I feel is extremely over priced but is needed if you don't want to open the flaps the whole time.

Just also make sure that if you are using a cover that it fits in the charging dock. From What I saw only the original Sony flip cover fits.

Eish my uncle dropped his today and the screen glass is fine but the lcd itself appeared washed out at first and now is displaying lines.......any idea what replacement is going to cost and from where?

Now I can copy and paste numbers in the keypad when I'm calling... Before the update this option was not possible

17.1.1.A.0.402

Maybe I was on the old firmware all along :)

Ahoy. Phoned Sony, their approved repair center is SSS Cellular in Jhb, but they didn't answer their phone. I handed mine in at CellC on Monday, awaiting quote now. I'm expecting anything between 3 and 4K.

I thought it better to hand it in at SP to keep warranty and waterproofness intact.

Going to wrap the damn think in a crapload of bubble wrap when I get it back. Screw looks.

Ouch! In Toti mall they have something similar to the Zagg Invisible Shield, I hope like anything that the template for the Z2 has arrived. BTW when the new Nexus phone launches I am buying that and the wife gets the Z2. While I love the feel of the phone the lack of developers on XDA is depressing.
