The Z2 is such a slippery phone, it is bound to happen. The vibrate function on this phone is so strong, and the phone so slick that many a time I have experienced messages or phone calls causing the phone to slip off my bed or desk/drawer. Granted I shouldnt place it too close to the edge but when charging, i find the cable is so short that I have no choice .

Walking around with the phone, if I take it out my pocket, I hang on tight as that phone just wants to be free and go for flying practice :whistling:

Does anyone know how to reset this thing without using the screen?

Mine is shattered and the screen constantly on as it is always picking up a touch. I can't press power to switch it off, as it brings up a menu which disappears within a few seconds.

I tried that remote wipe feature and received the mail saying it was done - but I can still see the Whatsapp, Dropbox, Gmail icons at the top of the screen. I don't really want to hand in my phone while connected to all my cloud services ...

I tried PC Companion and downloaded the software ready to 'restore' which cleans the phone - but I'm even battling with that as I can't turn the phone off when it asks.

No idea. Check xda. There's also a little power button under the charging flap, maybe there's a button combination.

Ah! Seem that button will do the trick!

How to hard reset a Sony Xperia Z2

While most other smartphones have a complicated way to perform a hard reset, Sony has made it very easy for you. There is no need to access the recovery partition or do weird button combinations.

There is a tiny button under the cover of the microSD slot. Find a pin (or something pointy) and press & hold it. This will hard reset your phone.

Use a USB OTG adapter and a mouse :)

I'm not even sure what that is - but guessing I don't have one? ;)

Mirrors the screen?

Micro-USB male to USB female. Will allow you to plug in a mouse to your phone... Quite cheap to buy

Indeed. I've dropped my Note 2 several times, corners are well chipped but still works fine. Since the Note 3 Samsung will replace broken screens for free.

It's contract renewal time and I was leaning towards the Z3 but that Z2 screen replacement cost is rather off putting ...

Although....

A reasonable cover does wonders.

I have an Xperia T with in incipio cover - it's fallen a couple of times with no negative effects on the phone.

Yeah, assuming the status quo is maintained, I'm going back to Samsung in 1.5 years time. I still prefer the way Samsung does everything on the Galaxy S range.

Everyone can't believe I don't have cellphone insurance - but I thought the majority of them covered lost or stolen only? Drops were excluded or were difficult to get them to pay out?

Yeah, don't assume. My concern was water damage, so I asked my broker to be sure. Hopefully he's right though when he said that would be covered!!
