Anyone received the full package? charging station, noise cancelling earphones? etc

There are different packages for different markets, just like there are different versions of the phone itself. Not everyone will get headphones, some might get headphones and a pouch, etc. Sometimes even in the same country the different networks will sell different packagings.

Just another reason I hate those overpayed marketing types. Everyone should get the best products, with the best freebies.

Well I am a happy Z2 user. I was holding out for the M8 but in the end I was too impatient :p. I expected the phone to be much heavier than what it is and I really am enjoying the smart band. According to Vodacom & Sony Gateway the noise canceling headphones & dock will arrive in 2 weeks time.

Now the debate going through my mind is do I need to root the phone. With the root you can increase the camera quality & get ringtone playback over both speakers. The reason not to root is that no-one is sure what functionality you lose with drm partition being erased. Oh one other reason to root, remove the farking Vodacom crud...

1: The M8 launched a month before the Z2
2: You don't seem that happy.

1: Really? You mean I can go get the M8 on contract at Vodacom today? Erm no I cannot... Yes the M8 launched International first but with Vodacom it's stone last. The m8 will only be available to Vodacom customers from July onwards.

2: On the contrary I am really happy with phone. I just get annoyed with custom carrier carp that in some cases I cannot remove. The phone has 16GB internal storage I don't need Vodacom apps taking up space that I could be using for other apps.

Recent news from XDA, an exploit has been found on firmware versions below .402 (we are on .55) that will allow us to backup the DRM partition with a locked bootloader. Once that has been completed we can then unlock the BL from Sony's site and root our phones since our BL allows for unlocking. There is also a glimmer of hope that this exploit will allow rooting to happen therefore bypassing Sony's site.

I am also very impressed with the phone. Thought I would have buyers remorse. I love it. As well as the "premium" feel compared to my 4S.

Does the Vodacom stock a special variant (boot logos etc)? Or is it the plain international version?

Really keen on upgrading from my S3

Vodacom Z2 comes with Vodacom boot logo and Vodacom apps. Nearly all the Vodacom apps can either be disabled or uninstalled bar the Vodacom update app which I have no idea what it does and I don't want to find out ;). The bootloader is rootable/unlockable so it is not tied down by Vodacom.

So we don't get the dock?!

So charging every day you have to flip down the waterproof cover?! I'm keen on trying the Smartphone, but would have preferred a dock rather

It is a bit of an annoyance, but I am looking at getting at least two days with this battery and the stamina mode so until Vodacom/Sony get the dock in 2 weeks time I will survive. Some concerning news from XDA is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770301 it looks like the magnetic charging tab on the phone is glued in place not soldered.

That's very disappointing though.

I was quite chuffed to get a docking station with my Xperia Z tablet and thought all would be like that. Apart from irritating - the cover gets weaker and breaks off because one uses it every single day. The chance to forget the cover off is larger as well and then the phone could be damaged by water which won't be covered.

With the tablet, I've never opened any cover - ever - and that's how it should be. Plus that dock is probably R600.00

I am loving this phone thus far. Battery life is amazing. Took it off charge yesterday morning at 07h00 and it is currently on 4% (battery savings and stamina mode activated) only downside is that 3g is off. But if you are in a pinch it is great. My S4 barely lasted 12 hours on a full charge.

Apparently the Smartband only comes with Vodacom new contracts. Upgrades don't get it. Cellucity does not have that restriction though.
Don't tell Vodacom Gateway that... I got my Z2, with band and cover and I did a upgrade.
