I see alot of South Africans who didn't grow up under an apartheid, and they still have race issues. Also, its very easy to not have race issues, if you have only ever lived along side your own race. Very easy to say something is right and wrong if you have no experience in the matter.

South Africans emmigrating & Europeans immigrating

I see alot of South Africans who didn't grow up under an apartheid, and they still have race issues. Also, its very easy to not have race issues, if you have only ever lived along side your own race. Very easy to say something is right and wrong if you have no experience in the matter.
My family immigrated to South Africa in 1990 from Europe. Then as many people in this forum have done, after my parents got a job opportunity in the US, we decided to move again in 2001. The factors that many stated here for emigrating were also ours. Our life in the US was not comparable to the one in SA. There was no crime, good education, numerous opportunities, and a comfortable and secure future. We felt what everyone termed "the American dream". The End. But....
After less than a year we moved back to South Africa. Sometimes we do question if it was the right thing to do, especially when hearing about crime, Zuma, and the Scorpions. But after my parents strived so hard to integrate into South African society, and two of their kids already living here since they were practically babies and the other born here, the more we lived in the US, the harder it was to bare it. We realized we were South Africans and South Africa IS our home. In the end we lost more, than gained.
The problem with most South Africans, including us, who emigrate or try to emigrate is that they forget to look at all the aspects of their actions and consequences. People who go to seminars are instantly brainwashed that the pasture is greener on the other side by throwing words which have great impact on a South African mind, such as "no crime", "good education", "good salary", "no corruption", "A FUTURE FOR YOUR KIDS" (which in some cases might be true). Then the ones who finally emigrate form the typical South African stubbornness trying to convince themselves that they made the right decision even if it wasn't. That was the case with my family too, luckily I was there to prove to them otherwise (I missed biltong, rugby, and Spur). Then when relatives and friends come overseas to visit the ones who emigrated, they try to convince their guests that their decision was right (usually to convince themselves too). This makes their guests start consider emigration too and go to a seminar, starting the whole cycle again. Sometimes you do get the South Africans, like me, who come back home.
The thing is that although there are bad people and big problems in SA, the good things tend to outweigh them. The most important good thing is being at home and feeling part it, where one can be himself. The second is being part of the future of your home and being able to contribute to its forming. The current skills exodus is detrimental to our future and is destroying our country more than the crime and corruption in the long run. So to all the South Africans in the forum who have emigrated, especially skilled people, you should be ashamed. Because you are complaining about a country which has so many problems, yet you are not here to help out when we need you the most. Don't get me wrong, I complain about my country too and so do many people I know. But as one wise man told me, you are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

its been common knowledge for a looong time that Germans and other very rich EU folks have been buying up beachfront places in CT. I always felt 'who cares - I'm never gonna have the money to buy those sort of places, so why should it bother me? Let the rich guys buy whatever'.
I guess some people don't like foreigners - and are trying to mix up their xenophobia with the equally crazy thing of comparing EU millionaires with the average new immigrant oke's experiences in London and elsewhere. Which is nuts in my view.

I am being called black, but my culture comes from the malay. I have black friends , but people are actually forcing me to being a racist, which is really sad. I have listened to all your comments and i find it really sad. The only thing that counts is if you happy with yourself, deep down inside. It's no use running off to another country and try to fill the empty gap, because of SA's circumstances. As the saying goes. You can take an animal out of the bush, but you cannot take the wild out of the animal. You've got to make the most of your situation and current surroundings.
I have also thought of leaving this county, but have fallen in love with the love of my life. As the other dude says, you will miss the rugby,biltong,braai,spur and our humerous politics.
