Agree on Luke's defense, bit dodge. I donno he's a grey area for me i just dont know enough and would like for him to be exposed as a waste of time or a inexperienced youngster.

On the subject of Butch, he's foot is as crooked as my nose(before the op)(broke my nose in a hockey game btw)! otherwise he's a good all rounder. but geez he's skeef, i can almost gurantee when he will miss! As soon as it has a bit of distance he is in kark and will miss.

Butch isnt bad, not close to last years WC form but really not bad.
 
I would applaud Steyn being placed in any center position.

He runs 'straight', something sorely lacking in a Springbok backline. If that makes him selfish, so be it, we need it.

If you look at the set move during the AB game, we created acres of space, should have scored but nobody straightened up, everyone was running cross field, ended up with AD and JP being bundled over the touchline when a try was on for all the money in the world.
No point distributing the ball laterally and not getting over the gain line.

Butch is going through a bad patch, however if you look at the kickoffs he did they were pinpoint perfect.
If it was not for his boot, we would have lost the world cup. He needs to focus on what he did right there and continue with that, a superb tactical kicker and he has to be the best 10 we have at the moment.
He slipped up last week defensively though more than once, but I am sure he is his own worst critic.

Also, someone needs to tell Habana to slow the fsck down .... he keeps overrunning the passes :D

It looks like a team selected for dry ground and for Aussie team that will likely spread the ball and try to speed up the game. No problems with the selections. Joe did not deserve to be dropped but all the loosies need game time and we need the quicker guys. Butch has had two bad games and it is time to give Grant a chance. If Butch fails again it would only be fair. Steyn is talented no doubt but he needs to be told clearly what his role is - and that does not include trying to be flash all the time.
 
I'd rather take Butch's dodge play that Grant's no-idea play ...... I rate him another Twatson .... all talk. My 2c anyway.

And 2c is all it's worth. Seriously though, Grant has it all. He can defend his channel well, can kick, create space, reads the game well and has speed. His only downfall is that he comes from Natal originaly (shame!):D
 
Not a fan of Grant, he only carried favour cause he is from Western Province.

I respect your opinion but in the S14 Grant was by far the standout SA flyhalf. I also like Bosman of Cheetas but it looks like he is being used more in the centre these days.
 
TBH Toffee we do not really have anyone else I reckon so he is a natural choice.

It is mystifying as the Sharks signed Freddie again and then scratch their heads as to where to play Steyn, when he wants to play 10, 12 or 13.
 
Unfortunately our best flyhalf is and has been injured for soooooo long. What is going on with Andre Pretorius? Anyone know? Such a hugely talented flyhalf but alas, our docs simply cannot put him together again... Humpty who?
 
Ja, AP is made of glass it seems and should not play rugby.

I could say the same thing about Frans Steyn being from Natal. IMO, Grant is much better at what he does than Steyn, and was a vital factor in the stormers doing as well as they did this year.

Onto Steyn. IMO, the guy is totally overrated. The reason why he doesn't have a specialist position, is that in every specialist position, there is someone better than him.
* He is too slow to be a fullback or wing
* He would make a decent centre, with his bulk and ball carrying ability, however, he has not shown himself to be consistently better than either of the centres.
* He is too indecisive to play fly-half.

Personally, I think the country has an irrational Frans Steyn hero worship complex. However, if he must play, I definitely favour playing him at centre.
 
Talking about Steyn not passing, did any of you notice that AD Jacobs got the ball and had a great oppotunity to score and he kept running towards Habanna and all he seemed to want to do was pass the ball. Exp. should have told him to straighten and make a gap for Habanna. Styen is great at that, even if he had gone for crash ball at least we would have retained the ball.
