Stage 2 loadshedding from today until... 11pm Monday

How were you not shed? You have your own PV generation?

Lucky, I know if you're near a government covid testing center you don't get cut. I've been hit every singe time :(

So, parts of my suburb were still off after 20:30 last night when the power was meant to be restored. It only returned back at 1:30am - substation fault. I wasn't affected, fortunately and the Solar + batteries held up well. Was at 60% when our power was restored.

However, it does make me consider getting a 3rd Pylontech battery - just incase we go off for longer periods in the evening. It would allow me to run the house for roughly 10hrs or so. Which should cover me for most cases...

If we look elsewhere on the continent for guidance, it feels inevitable that the ruling party will still be the ruling party for decades to come. It is the African way. A ruling party will do whatever it needs to in order to ensure it remains so. This is a grim forecast, but it is what it is. The fact that there may be 'democracy' and a functioning electoral system, well, these exist throughout this great continent but do not deter the ruling party from remaining in power.

We are currently load shedding again, today. From 8am to 12:30. I charged the batteries from the grid last night to 100% SoC - in case it was a crappy day for sun today - which so far... it is. But will be able to do without the grid until 6pm.

I guess. But in places like Him, their elections were and probably are, heavily rigged.
 
First round of shedding finished, my little generator finally out of fuel since the fuel run in July for it, it went through 10l which covered me for about 26hours or so which isn't bad. So fired up the slightly bigger genny to cover the remaining hour and a half. May need to go get more fuel for tonight but the big genny is still on half.

Out of interest; what do you run off that genny?

Looks like they are silently expanding the size of the areas affected by the loadshedding schedule and then fobbing it off hoping no one will notice, basically upgrading the names of each loadshedding level without announcing it because of obvious backlash.

Depends on the day on average two TVs, one 50" and one 32" an Xbox One S, MiBox, decoder, router, alarm, sometimes the ONT and router for the fibre as the UPS lasts about 8 hours on there. That would be the 950w 2stroke, the 2500w 4stroke I sometimes put the fridges on if the power has been out awhile.
Today I ran my laptop, my 32" monitor, my speakers and 2 routers as I'm in the study and those are what my inverter would've run.
 
What's minimum genny that I can get to run 42 inch LED, AppleTV and Router?
Just to keep kids and us entertained during loadshedding.

650w generator should be more than adequate.

That would cover TV, Apple TV and router really easily, if you wanna go for a noisy smelly route :-) I've got the Ryobi, but my 2500w one is a Omega.
You could also look at an inverter setup which is quieter, but it's initial layout is pricier

This will cover the above, it says for 4 hours but rather bank on 2+ hours, with that load you may get the 4 hours no issue.

Seriously, how can you want a genny over a small inverter system? Doesn't make sense to me.

Initial price I'd imagine, a 650w gennie is cheaper then a 750w inverter setup.
