Static IP on PC

Hey PP

I cant seem to remember how to do this but how does a person keep the static IP on their machine and then registering it to the network... I'm running DHCP on my network so I know that someone is bound to have their PC assigned a Dynamic IP and then it conflicts with my static....

I know you can make it tell the network that only your PC is allowed that specific IP. How is it done.

Reservation or exclusion in DHCP, i.e. leave DHCP enabled on the client, but reserve the MAC. Or exclude the ip in DHCP and use a static IP on the client.

um I think its reserving the IP I just cant remember how to do that

Is you DHCP server Windows? If so open the DHCP manager, select range, reservations, add reservation (not entirely sure cause I am not in front of a machine )

I have never done it by MAC addy before... I know you can just put the IP in the DHCP config to one side and then reserve it... and just statically assign it on your machine.... how do you do it via MAC though??? comeon do tell I kno u wanna

This thread turned weird after I left....

To reserve the IP you have to add the MAC address. The MAC field is compulsory. Then when you machine does a DHCP request, the server knows which IP to assign to it. The option should be there under exclusions (or above), called reservations....
