Oh yes, like a picture of my CD key. Bit pathetic isn't it? I gave up when I realised it was going knowhere. Learnt my lesson too.
 
Like. When I bought my Mac and found more than half my steam games working on it, I was stoked.

Dude they offer key retrieval for people who have lost their keys but still have their steam account access :D. I mean it just seems logical they could not help you considering you lost your account info and your cd key haha. How on earth could they help you? Not to mention your email was no longer working. So how on earth could they verify anything, apart from your box and cd's which is really good proof :p

Haha dude, if I still had my account, would I need to use the retrieve cd key option? It would be in my account... I understand I didn't have enough proof, but considering my situation, I tried anyway. All I did was try. Just thought it must have been some pretty retarded guy emailing back asking for a pic of something I've lost, or a computer replied. In which case I don't want to deal with them. So I cut my losses.

I like it but if there's a choice between Steam or GOG then GOG always gets my vote.

I don't like account-locking my games but in the same breath I know that my games are always up-to-date and that there's no physical media that can get damaged/break/get lost/whatever.

I like to get both physical and digital versions of games like I own the collector's edition of the first Witcher as well as the GOG release.

Generally, if there's no incentive to get a game boxed (pre-order incentive or physical goodies) then I'm unlikely to bother too much with buying a physical copy when I can just get it from Steam.

However, as I said, Steam is a great platform but I support GOG all the way.

Steam isn't perfect and it has its issues but frankly, have you seen Games for Windows LIVE? Give me a Steamworks game compared to that **** any day.

You clearly haven't put 2 and 2 together? If I had a picture of my CD key, I would have a CD key and wouldn't need to be retrieving it? I would have been perfectly happy if they said they couldn't help me as i didn't have enought info. But the fact that they wanted a picture of something I was trying to get back from the is retarded.
 
LOL no doubt that is true and they should have just said look you lost you cd key and your steam info now go purchase a new game :D.

Precisely :D would have been a little pissed off at first, but I would have gotten over it.
 
Cheap, convenient & legal games. Whats not to like?

*Assumes ADSL. Anything else & you can scratch the cheap & convenient part.
 
Well steam is not that cheap. A new game is what 300-350. Granted i don't buy games anymore i download via steam. Do they still sell new pc games for like 300-350 at btgames?
 
Steam is awesome yes, but I also prefer GOG or Direct2drive. I don't like being forced to log into an account controlled by a third party everytime I want to play my games, and I hate the client's general instability, not pausing downloads when I tell it to, and taking ages to launch a game sometimes.

You can't beat the community features and the insane specials, GOG and d2d have sales too, but nowhere near as often. Still, I prefer GOG's freedom, cool free stuff like wallpapers and soundtracks, and the fact that pretty much every game on there is an absolute gem, made to be fun to play. No quick consolified cash-ins there.
 
Definately like. Midweek Madness ftw. And then there are some insane specials, like the whole Unreal package for R70 and a bunch of other stuff.
 
Love steam. Good specials most of the time.

As to price on new games, they are forced to by the publisher apparently. Thats why once the initial fever has died down , you get to see the games go a lot cheaper on steam than brick stores.
 
Mixed.

I like the ability to play my games offline without phoning home, also once installed you dont have to worry about keeping the CD as you can always download the game again to play.

I dislike the fact that I cant trade my games(removes second hand market) or that it is killing boxed games. I prefer to buy boxed games as I have limited data and would have preferred to be able to buy all my Steam titles on a CD so I dont have to download the 10+ gig's before I can play them.
 
I like Steam a lot. According to SteamCalculator.com, my Steam collection's worth $2374.20, although the majority of the games I bought were on special. I don't think I've paid more then $30 for anything to date.
 
I Count 11 definite like's and 4 definite dislike's. So far steam is looking good.
