Just wish we had faster speed & more bandwidth internet access here.

Same, I have about 40 Steam titles that I never played due to the lack of bandwidth. Last year they had that huge sale where you bought like Developer packs that came with like 8 to 12 games each. I only installed some of them over time.

Also today I bought the 3, but only installing one for now. Dam SA caps!!!!

who is your isp?

I really don't know why people who don't have uncapped try using Steam. Just get uncapped and be done with it already.

Please tell me where this 'retrieve CD key' feature is... as I've never seen/heard of it in my life. They do have a 'retrieve lost account' feature though (when you lose all access or your account gets hijacked), and by the sound of it, that is the one you ended up using here. You did not have access to your account anymore, so you had to prove you are the legit owner of at least one of the CD keys, hence they kept on asking for "Proof of payment":

This is standard practice and I do not get why you are blaming them for this?

As I said, it was ages ago. Probably 5 years ago? So things could have changed. Anyway, I'd use Steam if I had the bandwidth. At the moment though, I won't be using it :)

I doubt anything has changed, without an email, steam account info and no cd key i would imagine things are the same :D.

Yea, things are about the same.
Lost access to your account? Give us proof that you bought some of the games on 'your' account.
Duplicate CD Key error? Give us proof that you are in possession of the actual hardcopy key.
Valve don't like changing things. The community have been nagging them to implement better protection/verification for decades... they only recently implemented Steam Guard a few months ago.

I think the bottom line is: Old steam account + inactive email account + bad memory = Too much variables to keep track of which usually results in sh*t hitting the fan.

Love Steam. Have been using it since the debut in 2004 with Half Life 2.

Worried about steam downloads ? Get a Web Africa account, the Steam FreeZone feature works like a charm!

I love steam.. I prefer getting a game over steam even if it costs a little more than getting it from the shop just because it's so easy.. And yes uncapped helps alot :D

That's easy to solve.
Get gmail account and mail login ID & password to self and keep registration mails. I do this for all things.

I was an EXTREMELY hesitant participant, but have to say, I now aim to buy every game on Steam. I actually feel let down when I can't...
It's mostly due to the convenience for me. Have some friends on there, all my games in one library, updates done automatically, vids and demo's also available.... I'm a happy camper :)
