If you copy your steam apps to another Hard drive you can just move it back once you re-install steam. Or you can use the backup feature - takes a while IMO

I just copied my entire Steam Directory to a removable some years back. I now just launch steam from it (It was slower back when the drive was on USB) now on external SATA

Everything is in the Steam/steamapps folder.

Just make a backup of the entire steam folder, all your games will be safe. Check the My Documents folder for savegame files.

Steam is brilliant. I haven't bought anything on DVD for almost 2 years now.

what if you buy a bundle special for borderlands for four mates

does each person have to download the whole game?

One person can download it, like someone with 4mb Uncapped and then copy it onto a flash drive and the other guys can copy it into their steamapps folder.

Because you have to validate your steam folder before it will work.

Your license is in the steam app, that's why you need to log in to play... you can also play offline so if you really want to you can start a offline game on both pc's you have the game on.

Note Log on to get license log in to play ;)

Make sure that your Steam\steamapps\common\borderlands folder overwrites his Steam\steamapps\common\borderlands folder.

Then, when Steam tries to download it, it will see the files are already there. Easy-peasy :)

Enough of this silly noob advice. I would suggest you rather do is this:

After you've downloaded the game from Steam. On the Steam interface, Click on the Steam option and look for the "Backup and Restore Games..." option. Just follow the on-screen instructions and Steam will make a nice Backup file of the entire game for you.

Then when you want to restore the game, you can simply restore it from the same menu as when you first made the backup.

Use the Backup and Restore Games feature that Steam provides. Then just keep that backup in a safe location (External Storage) and you'll be fine.

In the beginning Steam was super frustrating, but much better nowadays.

Cheap games FTW!!!!

Gr8 for countries with cheap and fast internet. Not so great for me, considering that the high cost of internet offsets all potential savings.

I only have 384 line and I love steam.

Just leave my PC running overnight to download the new games/updates and everything is hunky dory :)

Love it! At least when WA Freezone has got the games! Actually spending a lot of money on gaming now.
