Hi there

I'm experiencing Steam problems and after Googling I found tons of others who do too.

However no one has a solution to my problem

Ok so I closed Steam (made sure it wasn't in the task manager > processes)
I deleted clientregistry.blob (the all-rounder fix)
Now Steam "downloads updates" and it is taking ages.
I have BitMeter installed and it shows that there is no internet traffic to or from my PC.
So it seems Steam is having a hard time connecting to a server. (My internet connection is fine, i can download at full speed. And other programs that use the Internet works fine)

When it finally completes updating (after a long, long time (1hour+)) it asks for my password and i provide it (it is the correct password, im sure)

Now Steam just hangs, nothing happens :( I leave it like this for an hour and nothing happens.

This is also happening on another PC on the network, so it can't be a program on my PC.

I've closed/open, deleted everything (except steamapps), I've uninstalled/reinstalled and still nothing....

I have Mweb as ISP and I use Avast! Free (Home Edition) and I've excluded the whole Steam folder in the Shields -> File System Shield Settings -> Exclusions.

I've also removed and re-allowed it through the default [Windows] firewall.

I've closed all programs except those that need to be run and all internet activity is stopped. And Steam still does nothing!

This is happening the last 3 days.... Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Please, please help me :)

Backup your steamapps folder and uninstall steam. Sometimes it just becomes disassociated after so many updates.

Then reinstall.

Hi, thanks for the reply czc

I don't see how that'll help because as I said it's not only me who's experiencing the problem :)

But I downloaded the install file from Steam again, and am re-installing it again. It's now downloading updates again, at least now there's movement in BitMeter although it doesn't go higher than 6kb/s. At least it's doing something now! :)

EDIT: Doh... Still on 11% ...

I see you have mweb. Some people on my friends list on mweb have had some issues in the past also. Maybe try contacting mweb, there a thread about mweb gaming in the isp section.

Also Steam just updated their interface again for in game screenshots so not sure if its maybe just the demand?

I have Mweb as ISP

There's your problem. A mate of mine also has mweb uncapped and has issues with logging into steam.

Woot! I'm finally in! After 3 days! Holy crap that sucked.

Thanks guys for the replies.

Mweb said that they're improving the gaming experience on their network. So if it is Mweb that is the issue i hope it gets treated real soon!

It was probably something to do with the update.

Thanks again guys

new update let you select the server nearest so you can download updates fine, though never had problem with mweb and my steam , i never change any settings

I've never had problems with logging into steam with MWEB. Also might be because Steam is joining Intel to prevent accounts being hacked. Some sort of hardware security. Meaning you can only do major account changes on the PC you originally installes steam on. Something like that idk

This Thread OP's problem was before this update. And Steam Guard is voluntary, you can choose to use it or not. Because telling people to keep their logins to themselves doesn't work...
