Steam Machine

Will there be a steam sale on steam machine? Asking for a friend.

I’m still buying a steam machine.

Just as an example:

Marvel cosmic invasion : R569 PlayStation
Marvel cosmic invasion: R290 steam

Sooooo jaaaaaa PlayStation can keep there overpriced games and first party titles.

PS: nothing beats a steam sale! Even the PlayStation 5 Aircon.
15 fps cinematic gaming?

Consoles sell 30fps as a premium cinematic experience.

Also, it's not going to run that bad for 99% of games on Steam.

I can't remember the last time I didn't see 60fps on a game on PS5/XSX, it only mostly happens when it's a previous gen game that hasn't been patched.

"The other thing that has been surprising is the push to 60 frames per second. Based on previous console lifecycles, I would have expected there to be a lot more games that are 30 frames per second only, just because the artwork can be so much more detailed if you have longer time to render it. Instead, the almost universal rule this time around has been the games run at 60.

"It's great from a play perspective. Gamers overwhelmingly prefer games that are higher frame rates. I just didn't expect such a departure from previous generations."

So the problem they have is if they sell it cheap, say at $500 then people will buy it for other reasons and never spend money on Steam itself for games.

BUT what they could do is e.g. sell it at $800, then make $300 of that some kind of Steam store rebate program/cash that's loaded onto your account, it'd be an easy choice for all the gamers.

They can maybe throw the controller in for free and add some games as well pricing it above other boxes but still very good value if you are a gamer.

There is just no way in hell that thing go for $500 or even $800. My money is on $1000-1200

The K8+ 32GB was $550 on a Black Friday Sale. (Normally $750)
There is just no way in hell Valve could get a 2 x better-specced system together for less than that. I expect 2 x the price. In ZAR Min R20k maybe R24K top end R35K

In South Africa, you would also need to add the grey import tax, or gouging, rather. We won't be a direct market for Valve. Middlemen upon middlemen, fees are inevitable for us.

Definitely R20k plus for the box, controller and maybe the goggles if we lucky.

I think they said the combined pricing of the parts is something like $650? So yeah, 800 is already pretty hopeful to be honest.
If they price it at say 800 vs 1000 vs 1200 the sales will probably drop by 25-40% each time they go up a bracket.

Imo pricing it high will make them money, but it won't really change any of the status quo. If they price it low enough they won't make as much money directly, but they'll gouge a big piece out of both the console and Windows OS market for themselves.

But I doubt that's what they're after though, they're happy with all the Steam money they're making, all of this is just mucking around for them to keep busy.

They want steam sales the steam deck won't be priced for profit. Maybe a little on the top but its there to help sell games.
