I think it was to do with the free WiFi project. The actual fiber they are laying is just a small few strands.
We need to some how get ahold of Bashier Sallie.

Hmm. My latency over the past 6 hours has been fine in Stellenbosch (Krigeville suburb).

Here's my current traceroute to www.mweb.co.za:

Pada, most of the time my latency is fine, but I am only getting around 1.5Mbps. Again, this is like clockwork and my line stats are stable. alternate, Who is Bashier Sallie?

EDIT: nm, google helped.

Please pm me some trace routes and or speed tests that I can send to Telkom.

EDIT: if you are daring you can include your ADSL line number aswell which will help.

My latency is still fine, but my speed is half of what it should be again:

Code:
C:\Users\Chris-Desktop>tracert www.mweb.co.za

4 Mbps line in Onder-Papegaaiberg. Line stats are fine and line syncs at 4Mbps no problem.

However, performance has been worse than a 1 Mbps line for months, although not all the time, goes back to 3.6Mbps every now and again, but getting worse with time. Classic congestion symptoms.

Very bad tonight:

This is on WebAfrica, same on Afrihost.

Exchange here started showing signs of congestion September 2012.
Logged several calls via WebAfrica (my line is with them) - standard Telkom response: we are planning the upgrade...
Been in the planning stage for many months now :(

Telkom seems to respond quite quickly on their @TelkomZA twitter account. I suggest we hammer that a bit. Problem is we need critical mass, we need 50 of us, not just 5.

This is getting ridiculous now, even at 6:30 I am getting around 2mbps on my 4M line. Other Stellenbosch users: are you experiencing a gradual reduction in throughput?

On my 2Mbps uncapped I was limited to 1Mbps until about 23:30 and from there on I had 2Mbps speeds.

I ease into 2M speeds around then as well, only reaching 4M speeds around 2am.
