Step by step on getting internet.

It is unfortunate that your experience was such a ballache lol. I won't be tied into any contracts so if that is the case I will move my Line rental, even my ISP if there are any major problems.

I made my choices after doing a lot of research, it was no overnight impulsive decision.

Wow ok I did not mean to offend you at all.
If you are or have been offended by anything I said please rather pm me than derail the thread.

This thread was started to help newcomers to this whole process get a better understanding of what to do as well as the time frame. If you have any useful input please share it but if you don't then please keep your personal opinions to yourself.

Whao there, not offended at all. Just seems like you are stating some things as fact when it's not that cut & dried.

What did i state as a fact that is not cut and dry? The only things I have stated thus far as fact is what I personally went thru.

So I sent TelkomZA a pm on the forum. Asked him when the installation will take place and if it would be possible at all to speed up the installation at all as I need to use the line for work as well.

He got back to me first thing today saying that the installation date is noted as the 18th (I never received an sms informing me of this, I had to request it from him even though the first sms I received from telkom said that I would be notified with an installation date). He also said that he logged a request for them to advance the installation and that he should have an answer for me tomorrow.

Chuffed with the service I have received from his side so far... less chuffed with Telkoms lack of carrying thru with their promise that they will inform me of the installation date (A friend of mine lives in the same block and they literally just rocked up one morning and asked if they could come now. That is not ideal as I might be at work at that time)

As I mentioned, they did just that to me.
Gave me a date, I took the day off, they never came.
Rocked up the next morning while I was at work.

That is very unfortunate!

I luckily live less than 2 km from work but if I am in a meeting or busy with a deadline then I will be stuck.

Let's hope for the best.

Do yourself a favor and try to get the technician's cell no.
He called me directly to let me know what was happening.

Awesome stuff, I will ask telkomZA tomorrow when he responds to my last pm if he can get me the number! Thanks for the great idea :)

If it is only scheduled for the 18th then it has not been assigned to a specific techie yet. Hence nobody can give you a number...

Ah ok, well if I am lucky it might be done earlier, should know tomorrow. How long before the scheduled installation date does it get assigned to a specific "techie"?

Okay, after pm'ing TelkomZA I am happy to say that my installation was moved to tomorrow.

I got the sms early this morning (it woke me up).

It said that it is an whole day appointment. Does it really take the whole day? or how long does it take usually? (anyone with personal experience care to comment on this?)

I live less than 2km from work so it is very easy for me to pop out quick to go open up for the technician to do the installation.

Also, apparently it will only be assigned to a specific technician tomorrow morning. TelkomZA asked me to confirm my cell number and said that he will forward the information to the technician. (my cell number and the request to be contacted before they show up)

I can honestly say that I have been extremely impressed with the service I have received from TelkomZA on this forum, he has been extremely helpful and very quick to reply! It really is making this whole experience a lot more convenient.

It all depends on the work.
They had to reconnect my line and had to go to the next door neighbor to get access to the pole.
He was at my premises for about 3 hours.

Do you have a physical line installed yet?

There is a line in my apartment next to my computer, it's from someone who lived there before me. So I am assuming that they would just need to connect it to the exchange but I am not sure. Let's hope that is the case.

3 Hours would suck but is okay. Would just need to chat to work today.

Hi, my line is being installed sometime during the day tomorrow. I did not get the technicians number but I was told by TelkomZA that he gave instructions that I must be contacted in advance and that he will follow up tomorrow when he gets in. Lets hope for the best :)
