Still connected but only able to access Cell C website

Will check again tonite for my 24 hours to elapse & see if it repeats.

3 hours before 24ghrs :(
CellC shows connected.
Browsing, irc, msn, gtalk, email does not work.
www.CellC.co.za does however work!
Have to disconnect & connect again to fix.

I have the same problem. It is so annoying. Mine is worse though. It's totally random, can be between 15 mins and 24 hours. I have to d/c and reconnect.

Well terrible nite with CellC (while i was asleep :p )
Had to do the reconnect thing again, checking irc logs it was connecting/disconnecting every 10 secs.

WTF is up wiff CellC this morning?
Constantly disconnecting!!!!

I hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem with their data packages.

I doubt they even know about it. Posted here & @ Tell_Wots_his_name.

Hi IceQB,

You can email us on [email protected] and we will get our Technical Team to assist.

This happened to me again during the night. According to my router logs I had been connected since 09:02 on 2010/11/09. When I tried to use the internet this morning I could only access www.cellc.co.za, trying to access mybroadband.co.za and www.google.co.za timed out.

I started with a traceroute to mybroadband.co.za, which was successful:
Code:
$ traceroute mybroadband.co.za
traceroute to mybroadband.co.za (41.203.21.137), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1  mikrotik (192.168.88.1)  0.440 ms  0.570 ms  0.699 ms

16  mybroadband.co.za (41.203.21.137)  79.961 ms  79.932 ms  89.827 ms
This made me think the problem may lie with Cell-C's transparent web proxy, so I tried this:
Code:
$ tcptraceroute www.cellc.co.za 80
Selected device eth0, address 192.168.88.4, port 37853 for outgoing packets
Tracing the path to www.cellc.co.za (41.72.143.60) on TCP port 80 (www), 30 hops max
 1  192.168.88.1  0.387 ms  0.211 ms  0.202 ms
 2  * * *
 3  41.48.23.14  62.328 ms  68.293 ms  59.862 ms
 4  10.228.221.42  60.069 ms  69.799 ms  59.967 ms
 5  * * *
and this:
Code:
$ tcptraceroute mybroadband.co.za 80
Selected device eth0, address 192.168.88.4, port 37388 for outgoing packets
Tracing the path to mybroadband.co.za (41.203.21.137) on TCP port 80 (www), 30 hops max
 1  192.168.88.1  0.385 ms  0.252 ms  0.246 ms
 2  * * *
 3  41.48.23.14  63.183 ms  60.899 ms  69.998 ms
 4  41.48.23.14  59.850 ms * *
 5  * * *
Notice the difference at hop 4. Is 41.48.23.14 Cell-C's proxy? It doesn't have a PTR record in DNS.

I then tried pinging and found that only the first ping was going through:
Code:
$ ping mybroadband.co.za
PING mybroadband.co.za (41.203.21.137) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mybroadband.co.za (41.203.21.137): icmp_seq=1 ttl=51 time=76.8 ms
^C
--- mybroadband.co.za ping statistics ---
19 packets transmitted, 1 received, 94% packet loss, time 18022ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 76.835/76.835/76.835/0.000 ms
Code:
$ ping www.google.co.za
PING www.l.google.com (155.232.240.19) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from gc-cpt-bree-g21-23-19.uni.net.za (155.232.240.19): icmp_seq=1 ttl=50 time=93.2 ms

rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 93.296/93.296/93.296/0.000 ms
I disconnected and reconnected and everything was back to normal.

Been having this problem again since wednesday, really pissing me off now.
Never had any response from cellc after there call on 5/6th.
Up till now cellc has been good, but this problem makes me use 50-60MB a day extra with the constant reconnecting.

sigh, well after 4 days after quite fast internet, this morning it connects and...nada, nothing, no internet, no email, not even the cell c website.
Will go for a drive to check if it connects elsewhere:mad:

This has just happened again to me. Using an E1820 plugged into PC running Windows XP.
I had used about 180MB of traffic during the session, suddenly I could only browse to the www.cellc.co.za, and I couldn't ping www.google.co.za, mybroadband.co.za or www.cellc.co.za.

I thought I had finished my bundle, but *101# said I had 1.36MB remaining.
I disconnected and reconnected and was able to make this post.

And again. *101# says I have 0.44MB remanining, but when I connect now I can only browse to www.cellc.co.za.

I have been having the same problem today. Everything worked fine last night, but today I could only view the cell c website, which did not have any news of outages in the jhb area. I have almost 2GB left on my bundle.
Someone from cell c please pm me a solution, or notify us about the jhb / Killarney outage

Same problem here, says im connected but cant browse... I eventually got so fed up (after trying to get something done since last week) i sat in Cell C's head office and demanded a technician come to my house and see what the problem is. They checked everything and they cant see the problem but say my signal isn't very good and that could be the reason, so they sending me a external antenna (no cost) and are going to be putting it up this week when it arrives.

They will point it directly at the closest tower and they say i should have fast STABLE (most important to me) connection.. So when they have done this i will tell you guys if it worked if not then, well i don't know take it back i suppose? what else can i do if even they cant fix it.

Be great to see if it solves it or not - what OS & antivirus you using?
